Gerald H. “Jerry” Burkle, age 91 of
Wheeling, WV passed away August 14, 2026 at
WVU Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV.
He was born on April 9, 1935 in Wheeling,
WV the son of the late William H. and Adelaide
A. Pockl Burkle.
Gerald graduated from CCHS in 1955. He
served in the US Army as a Military Policeman.
He worked for Western Southern Life
Insurance Company for 32 years and retired as a
sales manager in 1991.
Gerald was a faithful member of Our Lady of
Peace Catholic Church and belonged to The
Knights of Columbus #12195.
He was a good photographer and enjoyed
cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.
Jerry and his wife, Marilyn, enjoyed dancing,
biking, fishing, and traveling to various states,
especially Florida in their RV. Wherever he
went, he knew no stranger!
Jerry and Marilyn had a special bond of love
that will continue until they are together again.
Their devotion to each other was a source of
inspiration to all who knew them.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by a brother, Michael W. Burkle, two
sisters, Phyllis Jean Dye and Patricia E. Burkle.
Survivors include his loving wife, Marilyn
Burkle; a son, David J. (Judith) Burkle of
Virginia; two grandchildren, David “Jack”
Burkle and Laura Burkle of Virginia; two sisters,
Rosalie Filben of Glen Dale and Mary Margaret
Danahey; several nieces and nephews, and a
good friend, Brian Life.
