A big thank you to the Armonk Rotary Club for donating 500 books in both English and Spanish to children in our Emergency Department, Pediatrics unit and new NICU reading program at Northern Westchester Hospital!

Now in its eighth year, this partnership continues to help bring comfort, and the joy of reading to our youngest patients and their families when they need it most.

This Memorial Day, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. We also recognize those who continue to serve, including our own Northern Westchester Hospital Emergency Medicine Physician, Dr. John Van der Steeg.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Van der Steeg serves as a military flight surgeon specializing in aviation medicine, with experience caring for service members overseas, including in the Middle East.

He credits for supporting his ability to continue serving both his country and his community, experiences he says have helped shape him into a stronger physician and better person.

Today and everyday, we salute Dr. Van der Steeg, all those who have served and those who continue to serve! ❤️🇺🇸💙

We’re proud to announce that Northern Westchester Hospital is one of the 15 Northwell Health hospitals to earn a top ‘A’ rating for patient safety according to a report released by The Leapfrog Group for spring 2026!

The Leapfrog Group’s biannual grades are widely regarded as a trusted benchmark for consumers and health care professionals. An "A" grade indicates excellence in hospital safety across multiple measures, including staffing levels, infection prevention, hand hygiene compliance and responsiveness to critical events.

Today we're celebrating 20 years of compassion, innovation, and unwavering support!

For the last 2 decades, the Ken Hamilton Caregivers Center here at Northern Westchester Hospital has been a lifeline for caregivers, pioneered by Marian Hamilton after her own experience revealed a critical gap in support.

What began as the first in-hospital program of its kind in the U.S. has grown into a nationally recognized model, impacting countless families and inspiring dozens of other hospitals to begin similar programs.

The $3 million, 9,400 square-foot facility features 18 exam rooms equipped with the latest technology. Located at 480 Bedford Road, Building C, Suite C104, the new practice offers a wide array of specialties under one roof.

As we wrap up Colore**al Cancer Awareness Month, we wanted to highlight Mihaela’s story — an Armonk native and a powerful reminder that there’s no such thing as “too young” for colore**al cancer.

Diagnosed at just 45 with Stage IIA re**al cancer, Mihaela’s experience reflects a troubling national rise in cases among those under 50 — even among otherwise healthy individuals with no family history. Her case was especially complex, as a childhood VP shunt placed her at risk for a life-threatening brain infection during abdominal surgery.

Thanks to the precision of robotic surgery, our very own Dr. Alexis Grucela successfully removed the tumor while carefully navigating these risks — allowing Mihaela to return home just one day after surgery.

Stories like Mihaela’s underscore the importance of early screening, awareness, and trusting your body when something feels off.
