AAHFN Pearls of Practice

Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) have transformed the management of type 2 diabetes and offer significant cardiovascular and kidney benefits. However, clinicians should remain vigilant for potential adverse effects, including ge***al mycotic infections, volume depletion, hypotension, euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis, and rare cases of Fournier's gangrene.

Patient education, careful monitoring, and early recognition of symptoms are key to maximizing the benefits of SGLT2i therapy while minimizing risks.

This Pearl of Practice highlights important considerations for identifying, preventing, and managing adverse effects associated with SGLT2 inhibitors in patients with type 2 diabetes.
