Thomas C. Cranmer

Thomas C. Cranmer, 88, of Concord, North Carolina went home to be with the Lord on May 28th, 2026.

Born in 1937 to the late Carl and Irene (nee. Coate) Cranmer in Bronxville, NY, one of his fondest childhood memories was the annual trip to the family farm in Indiana. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

After graduating from Roosevelt High School, he served his country proudly in the U.S. Army while stationed in West Germany. After his time in the service, he graduated from Westchester Community College, worked for both RCA and GE, completed his education at North Adams State College, and retired in 1992.

While living in New England, he was an active outdoorsman, taking the family on camping trips each year. He served in the Boy Scouts as an assistant scoutmaster where he put his outdoor skills to the test on canoe trips to Maine and winter camping in Massachusetts.

After relocating to North Carolina, he enjoyed attending Cold Springs United Methodist Church where he sang in the men’s choir and volunteered for their annual BBQ fundraiser. Tom and Grace made frequent trips to bluegrass festivals across the Carolinas. In more recent years he doted on a clowder of feral cats that “adopted” his beloved Grace. He was a collector of woodworking tools, solver of crossword puzzles and an avid reader of spy and crime novels until his final days.

He is survived by the love of his life and wife of thirty-six years, Grace, her daughter Laurie (Floyd Schwartz), his children Amy (Frank Harrington), Russ, Dave (Amy Murphy) and Andy (Tammy Pease), his grandchildren Mason, Morgan, Jessica, Heather, Josh, Tia and David, and his great-grandson Steven.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Lida Verdesi.

Per his wishes, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cold Springs United Methodist Church or Friends of Feral Felines (Charlotte).
