A Song of Hope: Juette’s Journey Through Recovery
Juette was admitted to AMG Specialty Hospital on October 8, 2025, following a devastating stroke. Upon admission, she demonstrated minimal signs of awareness and responsiveness. After nearly two months, the Speech Pathologist was notified that Juette had begun showing small but encouraging signs of alertness. Entering her room, he recalls praying for guidance and healing as he worked with her.
During the session, he began singing a gospel song entitled “Church Medley.” To his surprise, Juette slowly began mumbling the lyrics alongside him. Recognizing the significance of the moment, he captured the interaction on video and shared it with her son Ethan, who stated he will never forget the day his mother suffered a severe stroke requiring a ventilator and a tracheostomy tube placement. Reflecting on his mother’s recovery, he shared, “That day changed our life, and I prayed that we would make it to this moment. You all helped give me my mom back.”
“When you sent the video of her singing, I was about to coach a basketball game,” Ethan stated. “I was emotional, but it made me feel so good. Thank you.”
As Juette continued progressing, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy were initiated to further support her recovery. Over time, she improved to the point of sitting at the edge of the bed with minimal assistance as well as regaining the ability to feed herself. Respiratory Therapy successfully facilitated the removal of her tracheostomy tube.
Juette’s recovery was made possible through the collaborative efforts of an interdisciplinary team whose dedication and expertise were instrumental throughout her journey. She was discharged to a skilled nursing facility closer to her son so she could continue her rehabilitation journey. In a follow-up video shared by Ethan, Juette was seen walking in parallel bars with maximal assistance from one caregiver. Yet another meaningful milestone as she continues working toward her goal of returning home.
