Stubborn? Wrong? ME?

Yes… but man, I was COMMITTED.

take this as evidence that we yoga teachers can be knowledgeable, experienced, confident and also totally freaking WRONG.

So confirmation bias is our tendency to look for, interpret, and remember information in ways that confirm what we already believe & overlooking the little clues suggesting that maybe… we are, in fact, wrong as s**t … a concept that is quite difficult for my sun sign 🐂

I struggle with this. But I also know that being aware of this always the first step to change.

The second I become more committed to being right than to seeing what’s actually happening, I stop responding to the room I’m teaching.

I put a lot of my highlights up here: the clean assists, the thoughtful cues, the moments when I know exactly what I’m doing.

So here’s some evidence for the opposing argument.

I am absolutely human. I get s**t wrong. I can be stubborn. I can become very attached to my own version of what just happened.

And apparently, sometimes I need an entire room of people to lovingly provide peer-reviewed evidence.

I also skipped the entire left side of my standing series a few weeks ago. I mean tree, warrior 3, twisted half moon & half moon…. Just didn’t do them 🤡

So give yourself some grace today xx

Feeling pretty good about job security in the face of AI.

If you haven’t been around people today, at least call a friend.
If you have a question about gardening ask your mother instead of chat.
If you haven’t created anything in a while - get a coloring book.
If you’re starved for connection, knowledge, and movement - sign up of a yoga class, even if it’s not mine.

Meow.

I talk a lot about the ethics, energy, and safety that go a long with hands on assists../ but sometimes they just FEEL GOOD.

Yes, there I’ve obtained clear, revocable consent.
Yes, I’m helping her ground her tailbone back and down.
Yes, I’m assisting with the breath.
Yes, we found about 5 more inches in the spine.

But child’s pose + biscuit factory is just yummy.

I’ve had so much incredible feedback on this post.

Even though the poem itself is recited by an ai voice ( Mama Graves )the message is incredibly potent and is speaking to a part of the female experience that I’m not sure has been so clearly articulated in any other content I am aware of.

Most of the comments and messages I’ve received around it asks me either a) where I’m located or b) where can I find this in my part of the world.

I am located in Charleston, SC don’t have an answer for most questions around other locations. So I’m asking here - if you are a facilitator who:

A) identifies as female
B) is using touch as a healing modality
C) holds trauma informed containers
D) prioritizes safe touch
F) is working towards a world where all women know what it feels like to be held gently

This is a simplification of a very complicated and lengthy process, especially for trauma survivors.

I’m not a doctor. I’m not a therapist. But I am someone who knows how to sit with people in grief, in fear, in discomfort, and work at the edge of available safety.

Because I don’t think safety means convincing yourself that nothing bad will happen. I don’t think it means regulating yourself into perpetual calm. And I definitely don’t think it means overriding the parts of you that are scared.

Sometimes safety is simply having enough support to stay present with what is happening without abandoning yourself.

It’s learning the difference between discomfort and danger. Learning where your edges actually are. Learning that you can say no, change your mind, ask for support, take up space, soften, get stronger, leave, stay.

It is collecting little pieces of evidence that say: I am here. I have choices. I can feel what I feel and remain in relationship with myself.

And that relationship takes practice.

Even in this world. Even after everything that’s happened. Even when your nervous system has very good reasons to be protective, you can find solid ground.

Maybe not permanently. Maybe not perfectly.

But enough ground to stand on.

And then enough to move from.

Comment “safety” and I’ll send you the link to book a private lesson.
