🎒📚 BACK TO SCHOOL, CHATTERBOX KIDS! 💬💙

A new school year means new routines, new friends, new experiences—and SO many opportunities for communication to grow! 🌟

As your little one heads back to school, try these simple ways to support their communication at home:

🗣️ Talk every day — Ask questions, share stories, and really listen to what they have to say.

📖 Read together — Books build vocabulary, comprehension, attention, and imagination.

🤝 Encourage friendships — Practice taking turns, sharing, solving problems, and using words to connect.

⭐ Celebrate effort — Praise trying, persistence, kindness, and communication—not just getting it “right.”

💛 Keep it positive — A predictable routine, patience, and encouragement can help your child feel confident and ready to learn.

Remember: Every conversation, connection, and little moment of encouragement helps your child’s voice grow stronger. 🥰

Here’s to a wonderful school year filled with learning, growing, communicating, and making memories! 🍎✏️🎒

☀️ Summer Series Tip #8: Sounds Today, Confidence Tomorrow! 🗣️💙

Learning to say speech sounds clearly takes time—and the best practice doesn’t happen at a table. It happens during play, books, bath time, car rides, and everyday conversations!

Here are a few simple ways to support speech sound development at home:
🩵 Model words slowly and clearly.
🎲 Make practice playful with songs, games, and silly voices.
🎯 Focus on just a few sounds at a time instead of correcting every mistake.
👏 Celebrate effort, not perfection.
📚 Read, talk, and play every day—language-rich environments help speech grow!

Remember: Children develop speech sounds gradually. It’s normal for some sounds to come later than others, and every child progresses at their own pace.

❤️ The goal isn’t perfect speech overnight—it’s building confidence, one sound at a time.

☀️ Summer Series Tip #7: Play Together, Learn Together! 🧸💬

Did you know one of the most powerful ways to support your child’s communication isn’t through flashcards or apps—it’s through playing together?

Joint attention (sharing focus on the same object or activity) and joint play are the foundation for:
✨ Language development
✨ Social communication
✨ Learning new words
✨ Turn-taking
✨ Building meaningful connections

Try these simple ways to encourage joint attention at home:
👶 Follow your child’s lead during play.
👀 Get down on their level and play face-to-face.
🗣️ Talk about what they’re looking at and doing.
⭐ Point to interesting objects and wait for them to notice or respond.
🎉 Celebrate every shared smile, look, point, and interaction!

Remember, your child doesn’t need perfect words to communicate. Every shared moment of connection is helping build the skills they’ll use for a lifetime.

❤️ Connection comes before communication—and communication grows through connection.

☀️ Summer Series Tip #6: Ask, Wait, Listen… and Watch Language Grow! 💬🌈

Did you know that simple WH-questions (who, what, where, when, why, and how) are one of the best ways to build your child’s language skills?

Asking thoughtful questions throughout your day encourages:
✨ Vocabulary growth
✨ Critical thinking
✨ Conversation skills
✨ Storytelling
✨ Confidence in expressing ideas

The most important part? Ask… then WAIT. Giving your child a few extra seconds to think and respond helps them process language and build independence.

Try weaving WH-questions into everyday moments:
🚗 “Where are we going?”
🍎 “What are you eating?”
🌳 “Who do you see at the park?”
🛏️ “When do we brush our teeth?”
🤔 “Why do you think that happened?”
🧩 “How did you build that?”

Remember: Every conversation is an opportunity to learn. ❤️ One question at a time can make a big difference!

🇺🇸❤️ Happy 4th of July from all of us at ChatterBox Kids❤️🇺🇸
Today we’re celebrating freedom, family, fun...and every child’s unique voice! 🎆✨
Whether your child communicates with words, gestures, signs, or an AAC device, every form of communication deserves to be celebrated. Every voice matters, and every milestone is worth cheering for.
As you enjoy parades, fireworks, backyard BBQs, and family time, remember that some of the best language learning happens during everyday moments:
🎇 Talk about what you see.
🍉 Name favorite foods.
❤️ Take turns telling stories.
🎆 Model new words while you play and celebrate together.
Wishing all of our amazing families a safe, joyful, and memory-filled Independence Day! 🇺🇸💙
✨ Every word counts. Every voice matters.

☀️ Summer Series | Tip #5: AAC Boosts Language Development! 💙🗣️
One of the biggest myths we hear is, “If my child uses an AAC device, they won’t learn to talk.”
✨ The truth? Research shows the opposite.
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) gives children a way to communicate while supporting overall language development. When children have a reliable way to express themselves, they often become more engaged, less frustrated, and more motivated to communicate.
💙 AAC can help:
🗨️ Build vocabulary and language skills
💛 Reduce frustration by giving children a voice
🧠 Support spoken language development
🤝 Increase confidence and social interaction
🌟 Encourage communication in everyday routines
The most important thing? Model, model, model! Use the device during play, meals, books, and daily routines. Your child learns by seeing you use it—just like they learn spoken language by hearing you talk.
Remember: AAC doesn’t replace speech—it supports communication. Every child deserves a voice. 💙

☀️ SUMMER SERIES TIP #3 ☀️
Did you know that learning to eat starts long before a child takes a bite?
For many little ones, especially between 6 months and 3 years, exploring food with their eyes, hands, nose, and mouth is an important step in developing feeding skills. 🍉🍓🥒
This week, try a simple Summer Food Sensory Tray! Offer a few different foods and let your child:
👀 Look at them
✋ Touch and squish them
👃 Smell them
💬 Talk about what they notice
Remember: there is NO pressure to taste. Exploration is learning!
When children feel comfortable around new foods, they’re more likely to build positive eating experiences and expand their food repertoire over time.
❤️ Play with food today. Build eating skills for tomorrow.
What summer foods does your little one love exploring? Tell us below! ⬇️

☀️ Summer Series Tip #1 ☀️
✨ Follow their lead… then add a little! ✨
One of the BEST ways to support communication development is by joining your child in what already interests them. 💬🧩
Instead of asking lots of questions, try:
➡️ Noticing what they’re focused on
➡️ Waiting and giving them time to respond
➡️ Adding just ONE extra word, sound, or idea
Example:
Child: “Bubbles!”
You: “Big bubbles!” 🫧
These small moments throughout the day can make a BIG impact on language growth. 💙❤️💛💚
Save this post to try later & follow along all summer long for more easy speech and language tips! ☀️
