Sometimes the most effective thing you can do… is pause.

Take a breath.
Step back.
Give yourself a moment.

In DBT, we talk about PLEASE skills—taking care of your physical and emotional well-being so you can stay balanced. When we’re constantly pushing, overdoing, or ignoring our needs, it becomes much harder to regulate emotions and respond effectively.

Balance isn’t about doing everything perfectly—it’s about noticing when you need to slow down and giving yourself permission to do it.

Today, check in with yourself:
Have you paused?
Have you breathed?
Have you taken care of what your body and mind need?

Small moments of care add up.

Radical acceptance isn’t approval.
It’s not giving up.
It’s not saying something should have happened.

It’s saying:
This is what’s here right now.

And when we stop fighting reality,
we reduce suffering—and create space to actually respond differently.

This is hard work.
And it’s one of the most powerful skills we teach.

In DBT, you’re accepted as you are—and supported to change what’s not working.

That balance is what helps people actually grow.

You don’t have to choose between being yourself and getting better—you get both.

Got Skills?
When you’re angry, the urge to “give someone a piece of your mind” can feel justified.

But in DBT, we ask a second question:
Even if it’s justified… is it effective?
Most of the time with anger — it’s not.

That’s when we use Opposite Action:

• Notice the urge to attack
• Check the facts
• Ask: will this help or make it worse?
• Speak calmly instead of snapping
• Soften your tone + body
• Listen or take space

Do it all the way — not halfway.
That’s how anger starts to come down.
