Midwife Angie here, I’ve been posting some updates about the work being done on the Oak Harbor Mothership Birth Center facility but we are still going strong and catching babies here in Mount Vernon.
You have options for where to give birth to your baby!
This is little ol’ me in our River Room birth suite. Warm and cozy space and our safety equipment is tucked away and not the first thing you focus on in the room.
Reach out if you have questions or would like a tour of the Mount Vernon Mothership Birth Center. I’m happy to show you the space and talk about the loveliness and safety of Birth Center birth. I also offer homebirth as well! One of the main questions that I get is if I accept insurance and yes, I do for both Birth Center and homebirth. I take most insurances including Apple Health.

Relationship building is the heart and foundation of good Midwifery care. We want you to have a satisfying and supported birth no matter what the story looks like.

“Women stop because they believe they are failing — and they believe they are failing because no one has ever explained to them how lactation actually works. They have not been told that:
The breast is not a storage vessel but a dynamic, demand-responsive system

Cluster feeding is biologically normal and not a sign of starvation

The sensation of fullness is not a reliable proxy for supply

A baby who nurses frequently for comfort is not evidence of poor milk quality

They have not been told any of this because we live in a culture that is deeply, structurally uncomfortable with breastfeeding — and has outsourced infant feeding education to the internet, where it is handled by strangers with opinions and formula companies with budgets.”

The Economist recently published a piece on why women "cannot make enough breast milk." Here's why that framing is dangerous — and what the science actually says about lactation, perceived milk supply, and the real reasons women stop breastfeeding.

Spent a beautiful day yesterday at the Oak Harbor Mothership Birth Center facility. The work is moving along so well and the calendula in the yard is growing like crazy! Great harvest that will become healing salve. Come and say hello to us at the Whidbey Health Baby Resource Expo on June 7th from 11-4. So excited to be serving the Whidbey community as soon as we can get up and running. (P.s. we can do homebirth in the meantime!) www.mothershipbirthcenter.com
