Leading platforms continue to roll out enhancements in document accessibility including FamilySearch which continues to expand its Full-Text Search capabilities, reducing the time we have to spend manually browsing historical documents. FamilySearch previews fun new features they will be adding to the program. You can try out the beta versions by going to the home page, locating the box called "FamilySearch Labs," and clicking on "View Experiments." Heritage Explorer shows a breakdown of your heritage by family lines (which is different than DNA). Click on each country to see which ancestors are from there, along with fun facts about that region. Come to the Center if you need help!

Genealogy-themed vacation, part 3: PACKING ESSENTIALS:
1. Digital backup tools: Download scanning apps or bring a portable scanner, laptop, and extra phone battery packs to preserve historical physical records. Or even easier, take pictures of the document with your phone!
2. The "icebreaker" folder: Carry physical or digital copies of old family photos, trees, and your own family photos to share with local historians or newfound distant relatives.
3. Surname tokens: Pack small, regional gifts from your hometown to give as thank-you tokens to helpful locals, librarians, or clerks.
