We've got some extremely exciting news!
Jessica Soria has officially transitioned from intern to counselor here at MVFC and her immediate openings are filling fast while we work through our waitlist and new service requests! Welcome aboard, Jessica!

Jessica is a temporary licensed mental health counselor (t-LMHC) passionate about creating a safe and supportive therapeutic environment for individuals from all walks of life. She enjoys working with children (as young as 2 years old), adolescents, and adults facing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, adjustment difficulties, grief and loss, and other life transitions. She believes that every person has a unique story, and she strives to create a warm, welcoming, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe to explore their experiences, emotions, and goals. Her goal is to help clients build on their existing strengths, develop effective coping strategies, and gain greater confidence in navigating life's challenges. She considers it a privilege to walk alongside clients on their journeys toward healing, growth, and greater well-being.

Jessica's therapeutic approach is grounded in person-centered principles, emphasizing the importance of building a trusting relationship and meeting each client where they are. She believes that clients are the experts in their own lives, and her role is to provide support, guidance, and tools that help foster growth and resilience. In addition to person-centered therapy, she incorporates narrative therapy techniques to help clients better understand and reshape the stories they tell about themselves and their experiences. When working with children, she often utilizes play-based and art-based interventions to encourage expression, communication, and healing in developmentally appropriate ways. She is interested in furthering her education by specializing in Play Therapy and Theraplay to continue her therapeutic work with children. Outside of her work as a counselor, she enjoys biking, hiking, reading a good book, and connecting with friends and loved ones. These experiences help her maintain balance and remind her of the importance of self-care, meaningful relationships, and finding joy in everyday moments.

Thank goodness it's Friday - Don't you agree, Ellis? ... Ellis?

She has been put to work ever since starting here! A client even caught this photo of her today 😸

A sweet cat fact for today:

Did you know that petting a cat for just 10 minutes can significantly reduce stress by lowering cortisol levels and stimulating the release of oxytocin, the "happiness hormone". Their calming purrs and presence offer companionship that can lower anxiety and provide a sense of emotional security, acting as natural stress-relievers.

Have a great weekend of rest, everyone! We know that Ellis will!!

We had a delightful time playing "Spot Our Interns" when we came across this post from the Iowa Association for Play Therapy about last Friday's conference!

Our team is always eager to broaden their knowledge and have fun while doing so. A big thank you to the Iowa Association for Play Therapy for organizing such a fantastic event—Olivia and Jessica couldn't stop raving about it!
