We are so proud to share that Governor Bob Ferguson has signed a proclamation declaring May as Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month!

Our Executive Director shares, "Maternal mental health impacts not only parents, but entire families and communities. We are deeply honored that WA State has officially recognized May as Maternal Mental Health Month. This proclamation reflects years of advocacy, collaboration, and the voices of parents across our state who deserve compassionate and accessible support from pre-conception through postpartum. At PS-WA, we believe every parent, parent-to-be, and those who aspire to be parents, should know they are not alone and that mental health care is an essential part of maternal health care."

We were honored to work with the Washington State Health Care Authority and the UW PERC Center on this important initiative that will spread awareness and education on maternal mental health for years to come.

"So Madeleine began to write. She wrote stories about famous heroes she knew from books, and stories about little girls like herself. She found that when she had a difficult question, or felt scared or sad or confused, writing could help her feel brave. She learned that a book can be like a star—a new and fiery creation that can shine light into a dark universe."

This quote is from several years ago but it’s so important. Being truly seen by others is such an essential human need and we can only experience it when we let our authentic self show.

Maybe humans should come with warning labels.
