When Mulvane police responded to a "drunk and disorderly" call, they didn't find a disturbance—they found a grieving father. Shattered by his painful divorce in the wake of losing his daughter to su***de, he was at his absolute breaking point.

The officers handed him a lifeline: a voucher for the Stress Management Program and access to free, anonymous licensed therapy sessions. A while later, the man reached out to the department to say that the program had truly saved his life. A year later, he still credits that single, compassionate intervention for giving him a second chance.

Stories like this are only possible because of neighbors like you. Your donations to the Mulvane Community Foundation to keep the Mulvane Mental Health Coalition’s Stress Management Program funded ensures our community always has a lifeline to hand to someone in their darkest hour. Please consider contributing today – your generosity truly saves lives.

USD 263 Student Wellness Supports

At USD 263, supporting student well-being is our top priority.

Over the last few years, we’ve intentionally provided more resources to increase student mental health supports and cultivate healthy peer relationships.

From mental health training to student-led advocacy, here is a look at the supports now available to our Wildcats:

🛡️ Enhanced Safety & Support Staff

-- Increased SRO Presence: We now have two School Resource Officers, one dedicated to MHS/MGS and one to MMS/MPS, to strengthen student relationships and campus security.

--Dedicated Mental Health Training: In February 2025, our Mental Health Team completed intensive training with the KSDE School Mental Health Coordinator. Next fall, they will expand their skills further with Youth Mental Health First Aid training.

--Focused Counseling Time: By adding a College Adviser at MHS and a Tiered Support Facilitator at MMS, we’ve freed up our counselors to spend more time supporting student needs. Reach out to the Counselor at your child’s school to access support for your student.

--Monitored Chromebook Use: School Staff and Parents can monitor students' Chromebook use through our Securly Online Safety Platform. Find more information through this link and contact our USD 263 Technology Department with questions: https://drive.google.com/file/d/160254twcV2cmdh9jEl_Rzrh2Js_DqS6A/view?usp=sharing

🤝 Building Positive Relationships

-- Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH): We use a "Social Contract" system in our classrooms. By asking students how they wish to be treated by teachers and peers, we give them an equitable voice and the tools to navigate conflict in healthy ways.

--Student-Led Advocacy: The Zero Reasons Why organization at MHS empowers students to lead the conversation on mental health. They are currently assisting younger students ahead of our May 8th assembly featuring "Your Life Speaks."

-- Smart Pass & Tech Policies: We’ve implemented Smart Pass to better monitor student travel throughout our buildings. The MHS Cell Phone Policy was revised to encourage face-to-face connections, reduce digital distractions, and increase positive interactions at school.

📱 Empowering Students & Families to "Speak Up"

We’ve put help directly into our students' hands. All 6th–12th grade Chromebooks have the Speak Up and A Friend asKS apps installed for easy reporting and crisis support.

🏥 Mental Health Partnerships

Through our grant-funded Wildcat Care Team and partnership with Comcare, we provide cost-effective therapy during the school day to 6th-12th grade students, significantly reducing wait times for students in need.
