More than flowers grow at Westminster Village; so do purpose, memories, friendships, and a sense of belonging.
Throughout our campus, residents share their time and talents to create beautiful spaces for others to enjoy. Marsha Kibbey and Ursula Nicola help care for our Memorial Garden, while Rozann and Jim Schenkel planted and tend the colorful flowers along the south side of the building.
Marsha Kibbey stated, “Helping care for the Memorial Garden at Westminster Village provides a beautiful space for residents and visitors to enjoy. On a personal level, it gives me a sense of purpose in my daily life and supports my mental well-being, which is especially important at this stage of my life. Every morning when I water the garden, I’m reminded of the days my mother and I spent watering our garden on the family farm. I even continue to use my grandmother’s 120-year-old garden hoe in the Westminster Village Memorial Garden today!”
Ursula Nicola stated, “After living in Indianapolis for more than 50 years, I hoped to move to a rural area later in life. Westminster Village, with its vast meadows, beautiful trees, and colorful flowers, turned out to be a wonderful gift to me. Taking responsibility for the garden and becoming involved in its care felt like a natural step. It is a place where residents and visitors gather to watch the swans and ducks on the pond, and many often comment on the garden’s beauty and peacefulness.”
Rozann Schenkel stated, “I like to grow flowers because it brings joy to me and to those with whom I can share them. Often, when I am watering the garden, I meet new people who just happen to be passing by the south end of the building.”
Thank you, Marsha, Ursula, Rozann, and Jim, for sharing your love of gardening and helping our campus and our community continue to bloom!
