✨New Blog Post✨

You’ve probably heard the word glyphosate before, but what is it, and should you be concerned?

Glyphosate is one of the most widely used herbicides in modern agriculture and can be found in some of the foods many of us eat regularly, including oats, wheat, cereals, bread, pasta, crackers, and snack foods. The good news? Reducing exposure doesn’t have to be complicated or all-or-nothing.

Simple steps like choosing organic grain products when possible, reading labels carefully, eating more whole foods, and reducing reliance on highly processed snacks can make a meaningful difference over time.

At Osteopathic Healing Arts Direct Primary Care, we believe health is built through practical, sustainable choices, not fear or perfection. Small changes repeated consistently often have the greatest long-term impact.

If you’re interested in learning more about glyphosate, where it’s commonly found, and realistic ways to reduce exposure, we’ve broken it down in our latest blog.

At Osteopathic Healing Arts Direct Primary Care we believe, of the simplest ways to support your health this season may be right in your local farmers market.

Fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables are often harvested closer to peak ripeness, giving you access to nutrient-dense foods while supporting the farmers and families who grow them.

When you buy local, you’re doing more than filling your grocery cart:
🍅 Supporting local agriculture
🥬 Increasing access to fresh, seasonal foods
🫐 Reducing the distance food travels
🌽 Strengthening your community’s economy
🥕 Encouraging healthier eating habits for the whole family

From an osteopathic perspective, wellness isn’t built through a single supplement or quick fix. It’s often the result of small, consistent choices that nourish the body over time, and choosing fresh, whole foods is one of those choices.

Take some time to explore a local farmers market this week. Your body, your community, and your local farmers will thank you.

You can find a list of farmers markets here: https://www.visitlakecounty.org/farmersmarkets

The calendar may say summer starts June 21st, but the sunshine, bug bites, and sunburns have already arrived.

As we spend more time outdoors, it’s helpful to have a few natural remedies on hand to soothe irritated skin and support your body’s healing process.

☀️ For mild sunburn:
• Pure aloe vera gel
• Cool compresses
• Oatmeal baths
• Plenty of water and electrolytes
• Antioxidant-rich foods like berries, watermelon, and citrus

🦟 For bug bites:
• Cold compresses
• Baking soda paste
• Oatmeal paste or baths
• Raw honey (on intact skin)
• Calendula or aloe vera to calm irritation

From an osteopathic perspective, supporting the body’s natural healing response is key. Hydration, nutrient-dense foods, quality sleep, and reducing inflammation can all help your body recover more efficiently after summer adventures.

Of course, severe reactions, signs of infection, or extensive sunburns should always be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

Staying hydrated this summer is about more than just drinking more water.

When temperatures rise, your body loses not only water but also important minerals like sodium, potassium, and magnesium through sweat. That’s why true hydration means supporting both your fluid and electrolyte balance.

Simple ways to stay hydrated from your friends at Osteopathic Healing Arts Direct Primary Care include:

💧 Drinking water consistently throughout the day
🍉 Eating water-rich foods like watermelon, cucumber, strawberries, oranges, and lettuce
🥥 Incorporating natural electrolyte sources such as coconut water, citrus, sea salt, and mineral-rich foods
🥑 Supporting mineral intake with foods rich in magnesium and potassium like avocados, leafy greens, bananas, and nuts
☀️ Paying attention to thirst, energy levels, headaches, muscle cramps, and dizziness, which can all be signs your body needs more support

From an osteopathic perspective, hydration plays an important role in circulation, muscle function, joint health, energy production, and the body’s ability to maintain balance and heal.

Small daily habits can make a big difference in how you feel throughout the summer months.

🔔 NEW BLOG 🔔

When most people think about osteoporosis, they think about women.

But osteoporosis affects men too, and it often goes undetected until a fracture occurs.

Known as the "silent bone disease," osteoporosis can develop gradually over many years without obvious symptoms. By the time a man experiences a broken hip, wrist, or spinal fracture, significant bone loss may have already occurred.

Age, hormonal changes, certain medical conditions, medications, smoking, poor nutrition, and a sedentary lifestyle can all contribute to declining bone density.

The good news? Bone health is something you can support. Weight-bearing exercise, strength training, proper nutrition, healthy vitamin D levels, and early screening can make a meaningful difference.

A fracture after age 50 shouldn't simply be dismissed as "getting older." It may be your body's way of asking for a closer look.

Still feeling exhausted, inflamed, foggy, or “off” no matter what you try?

For some people, the missing piece may be mold exposure.

Mold illness is often overlooked because symptoms can show up in many different ways, and they don’t always look like traditional “allergy” symptoms. Exposure can impact the nervous system, immune system, hormones, detox pathways, gut health, energy levels, and cognitive function.

Mold exposure can come from:
• Water-damaged homes or buildings
• Hidden leaks behind walls or under flooring
• Basements, bathrooms, or HVAC systems
• Workplace or school environments
• Past exposure that the body hasn’t fully cleared

Common symptoms may include:
• Chronic fatigue
• Brain fog or memory issues
• Sinus congestion or chronic cough
• Headaches or migraines
• Anxiety, irritability, or mood changes
• Skin rashes or histamine reactions
• Digestive issues
• Joint pain or inflammation
• Dizziness or sensitivity to smells/chemicals

For some individuals, mold-related illness may require deeper investigation through:
• Environmental testing
• Functional lab testing
• Mycotoxin testing
• Inflammatory marker assessment
• Nervous system + detox pathway evaluation

Healing often involves more than “killing mold.” It may include supporting detoxification pathways, nervous system regulation, gut health, mineral balance, inflammation reduction, and reducing ongoing exposure.

This post is for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for personalized medical care, but if you’ve felt like your symptoms aren’t adding up, it may be worth looking deeper.

At Osteopathic Healing Arts Direct Primary Care, we take a whole-body, root-cause approach to health and wellness.

Feeling exhausted, anxious, foggy, or overstimulated all the time isn’t always “just stress.”

Low levels of nutrients like Vitamin B1 (thiamine) can impact the nervous system, energy production, mood, focus, and overall resilience in ways many people don’t realize.

Symptoms of low B1 may include:
• Fatigue
• Brain fog
• Irritability or anxiety
• Poor stress tolerance
•Muscle weakness
• Heart palpitations
• Tingling or numbness
• Difficulty concentrating

Your body is constantly giving signals, it’s important to listen instead of pushing through them.

At Osteopathic Healing Arts Direct Primary Care, we take a whole-body approach to health by looking deeper at the root causes behind symptoms, not just masking them.

Knowing your body matters.

A self breast exam isn’t about fear, panic, or trying to “catch” something wrong. It’s about becoming familiar with what’s normal for your body so you can recognize changes if they arise.

Most breast changes are not cancerous, but awareness and consistency are still important. Small shifts in texture, appearance, or sensation are easier to notice when you already know your baseline.

This isn’t about perfection. It’s about connection, education, and learning to listen to your body with awareness instead of anxiety.

At Osteopathic Healing Arts Direct Primary Care, we believe preventive care starts with understanding your body and feeling empowered in your health journey.
