Several months ago, I decided to give reformer Pilates a try. The reason being is that I had a few clients that were doing it regularly and I wanted to get a feel for what they were doing on their own. I also had been reading how many college and pro athletes had implemented Pilates and yoga into their routines and how beneficial it was for injury prevention. At 50 years old, I’m still very active playing basketball and volleyball several times a week. There’s a lot of jumping and landing, lateral movement, and plenty of ways to hurt yourself. Adding this to my workout regimen has been huge! I’m jumping higher, landing more softly, and cannot only feel the difference when I’m playing, but how I feel the next day. Not waking up feeling like I got hit by a truck.
So gentlemen, Pilates is often thought of as something just for women. I highly disagree. If you want to be humbled, give it a try. And if you’re looking for new ways to challenge your body, gain flexibility, and add some strength in places a lot of of us are lacking, give it a try.
