21 years later…..

I have watched you nourish your baby for the last 11 months. I love your perseverance and how relaxed you are in motherhood. I love hearing noodle ask for “boo”. Watching you mother your baby and give him what he needs makes me prouder than words can speak.

Number one question asked: what do you do for me in labor? My answer: whatever you need.

Things I’ve done:

•brushed her hair
•put her hair up
•tickled her scalp
•light touch
•hip squeezes
•counter pressure
•foot rubs
•massage
•walking together
•making meals
•keeping her hydrated
•holding
•holding a heating pad on her back
•saying words of comfort
•praying
•keeping the space tidy
•making the room cozy
•helping her ground her nervous system
•reminding her to breathe slowly
•speaking firm and loving when she spirals
•offering a hand to squeeze
•pouring warm water over her back in the tub
•and many more things….

Labor is not linear. Observing it over and over has taught me that no woman labors the same or needs the same things. While one may love hard counter pressure another may find it painful.

The greatest thing we can do as doulas is listen, observe, and use intuition to guide us into what our client’s need. What will bring them comfort, peace, safety, and security.

I’m proud to say I’ve officially launched my Motherhood Ministry serving Clarksville TN-Hopkinsville KY. This ministry is aimed to support local moms who need to feel held. I provide everything from postpartum supplies to women’s clothing and hygiene products. I have been absolutely overwhelmed by the outpour of LOVE and the giving spirit of this community. Just one day after launch I have received bags and bags full of donations and 4 forms have been submitted asking for support, I’m not lying when I tell you it brought me to tears. This ministry is always open to moms who need it and you can find support forms on my website.

If you feel led to donate postpartum supplies, diapers, wipes, clothes, hygiene products please PM me. I also encourage anyone who feels led to take time to write handwritten letters of encouragement to send out with each donation, because it feels good to feel seen.
