The Healthcare Owner — Article #3
What If Your Next Franchise Was in Healthcare?
Something interesting has been happening in many of my recent conversations about healthcare ownership.
A significant number of the people reaching out aren’t clinicians.
And they aren’t first-time business owners.
They’re already franchise owners.
They understand the model. They know how to follow a proven operating system, hire and develop teams, manage a P&L, execute brand standards, and grow within a defined structure.
They’re simply looking for something different to add to their portfolio.
And increasingly, they’re looking at healthcare.
I think that makes a lot of sense.
Experienced franchise owners already understand one of the fundamental principles of scalable business ownership:
You don’t have to personally perform every function of the business to successfully own and lead it.
Healthcare is no different.
The clinical component is critical, and the practice of medicine belongs in the hands of qualified healthcare professionals.
But building the organization around those clinicians requires an entirely different set of skills.
Operations. Recruiting. Marketing. Financial management. Customer experience. Team development. Leadership. Growth strategy.
Those are business disciplines.
That’s why some of the conversations I’m most excited about right now are with experienced entrepreneurs and franchise owners who have never worked a day in healthcare.
They’re not trying to become clinicians.
They’re bringing the skills they already have into an industry that needs them.
For the right operator, healthcare doesn’t have to be a departure from what you’ve already built.
It may simply be the next evolution of your portfolio.
Your business expertise belongs in healthcare.
The best place to improve healthcare is not always from the bedside.
