Research has found an association between osteoporosis and sensorineural hearing loss. The exact relationship is still being studied, but changes in bone density and the body's ability to maintain healthy bone tissue may play a role in the delicate structures involved in hearing.

If you're managing osteoporosis or have concerns about your bone health, don't forget about your hearing, too.

“I have had hearing issues most of my adult life (primarily due to listening to music and loud work environments.) I was constantly saying "Excuse me? Pardon me? What did you say?”
However, I never wanted to get hearing aids. Old guys have hearing aids, right? Finally, I decided to set my pride aside, and went and got help.
I had several friends who had recommended Thigpen Hearing Center. They were patients there and had received excellent care.
I have found everyone here to be extremely helpful. Many years later, I am now on my third set of hearing aids. I no longer have to question every conversation with repetitive requests. The only advice I could give anyone is to go to Thigpen Hearing Center sooner than later. You do not want to miss opportunities hearing family members (especially grandchildren). Many times, something cute will be said. And the moment is gone. You do not want to miss those moments!

Research suggests that hearing loss is more common among people with diabetes. High blood sugar levels can affect blood vessels and nerves throughout the body—including the delicate structures involved in hearing.

That means managing your overall health may also be an important part of protecting your hearing.

If you have diabetes, it's a good idea to make hearing evaluations part of your regular healthcare routine. And if you've noticed difficulty understanding conversations, especially in noisy places, don't ignore it.
