Self care isn't a luxury for leaders in long-term care. It's a requirement.

Joshalynn Vassar, BSW, MS, LNHA, LPC, Director of GeroPsych Services, presented to a packed house this month at McCrite Plaza's monthly network breakfast, hosted by Northland Professionals In Aging, a group supporting the senior population across northern Kansas City.

Her topic: Self Care in the LTC Setting.

The message was simple but easy to forget in this field. Leaders can't keep pouring into others from an empty cup. Joshalynn covered practical ways to lead by example, regulate through stressful moments, and protect the energy it takes to show up for residents, families, and teams every day.

During National Nursing Assistants Week, we want to recognize and thank the CNAs and care partners who work alongside our therapy teams every day.

From encouraging residents during difficult moments to supporting mobility, safety, and daily routines, CNAs play a critical role in helping residents maintain dignity, independence, and quality of life.

The partnership between nursing assistants and therapy is one of the most important collaborations in post-acute care. When teams communicate, support one another, and work toward shared goals, residents benefit.
