Join us for this month's free Walk With a Doc at Brookgreen Gardens on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 10 a.m.

Tidelands Health orthopedic surgeon Dr. Justin Head will discuss joint replacement, including when surgery may be the right option, what recovery looks like and how joint health can help you stay active and doing the things you love.

Following the discussion, participants are invited to join Dr. Head on a casual walk around Brookgreen Gardens, or enjoy it at their own pace. Whether you choose to walk, stroll or simply attend the educational presentation, all are welcome.

A board-certified family medicine physician, Dr. Thomas provides comprehensive care for children and adults, focusing on whole-patient well-being and taking time to understand each patient's unique health needs. Dr. Thomas explores conservative treatment options that support long-term health while providing expert care for chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, asthma and diabetes, as well as wellness exams and minor in-office procedures.

Is your high school junior or senior interested in pursuing a career in nursing? Tidelands Health is now accepting applications for the annual Nurses are Extraordinary event!

The day-long event will give selected participants the opportunity to learn about the nursing profession, explore a variety of nursing specialties and discover the educational pathways available to those interested in entering the field.

Because of limited space, participation is competitive and requires an application. Students must submit a completed application, a letter of recommendation and an unofficial transcript by Sept. 14. Both Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital and Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital have earned the Leapfrog Full Transparency Badge.

This national recognition is awarded to hospitals that voluntarily share comprehensive data about patient safety, quality and operations through The Leapfrog Group’s annual hospital survey, helping patients make informed decisions about their care.

By participating in national reporting initiatives like the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, Tidelands Health continues to demonstrate its commitment to transparency, patient safety and earning the trust of the communities we proudly serve.

Making a difference: Ashley Yeoman, an EKG technician at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital, is known for the attentive care she provides to patients and the organization she brings to scheduling.

Co-workers note her compassion and her careful approach, which helps catch issues that might otherwise be missed. Her work supports both patients and the care team each day.

What some call "liquid gold" is making a difference for babies across South Carolina. 💛

Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital serves as a milk depot site where approved donors can drop off breast milk donations. Those donations are sent to the Mother's Milk Bank of South Carolina (MMBSC), providing nourishment for premature and medically fragile infants.

Since 2016, Women and Children's Services head nurse Cassandra Minzler has helped lead this effort at Tidelands Waccamaw.

"It is such a wonderful experience seeing women give back to the community, whether they have an abundance of milk their own child will not use, are donating in honor of a baby they have lost or are simply sharing milk they no longer need as they reach the end of their breastfeeding journey," Minzler said. “The donors give with such joy, and I am proud to be a small part in ensuring their gift arrives safely to babies in need.”

To date, Tidelands Health has shipped approximately 47,290 ounces of breast milk to MMBSC.
