Some gifts are beautiful, but some carry a meaning that stays with you long after the gift itself. ❤️🌿

Today, I received this beautiful gift from my patient, along with words that truly brought tears to my eyes. It was not the gift itself that touched me most, but the love, trust, and appreciation behind it.

Being a physician is so much more than making diagnoses and treating diseases. It is about caring for people, listening to their stories, standing beside them during difficult times, and building a relationship based on trust and compassion.

Diane, your words touched my heart more than you know. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness, your trust, and for reminding me why I chose this profession.

Moments like this are incredibly humbling and remind me that the greatest reward in medicine is not what we receive, but the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life.

During my fellowship at the NIH, I saw a young patient who traveled from Europe and was still undiagnosed. A careful physical exam revealed multiple mucosal neuromas on the tongue and lips — a classic clue to MEN2B, a rare syndrome associated with medullary thyroid cancer and pheochromocytoma. This case was a powerful reminder that sometimes the diagnosis isn’t hidden in labs or imaging — it’s right in front of us if we take the time to look. We published this case in British Medical Journal.
