Progesterone is often thought of as the hormone needed for periods and pregnancy, but its role goes far beyond reproduction.

Progesterone can have a calming effect on the brain and nervous system. When levels are low, women may experience difficulty sleeping, increased anxiety, irritability, heavier or irregular periods, breast tenderness, headaches, or feeling more emotionally reactive.

When appropriately prescribed, progesterone may help support:

Better sleep
A calmer mood
More regular menstrual cycles
Reduced heavy bleeding
Protection of the uterine lining when using estradiol
Overall hormone balance

Estradiol may be the infrastructure, but progesterone provides an important layer of balance and protection. Both hormones have distinct roles, and the right treatment depends on your symptoms, stage of life, health history, and individual needs.

Estradiol is more than a hormone that helps with hot flashes. It is part of the infrastructure that supports a woman’s entire body.

Healthy estradiol levels influence sleep, mood, memory, bone strength, muscle mass, insulin sensitivity, cholesterol, cardiovascular health, vaginal health, and sexual function.

When estradiol declines, we often notice the symptoms first: hot flashes, disrupted sleep, brain fog, mood changes, weight gain, vaginal dryness, and low libido. But beneath those symptoms, changes may also be occurring in our metabolic, cardiovascular, and bone health.

The goal is not simply to quiet symptoms. It is to evaluate the whole picture and determine what support your body needs to function well now and protect your health long-term.

Hormone therapy is not one-size-fits-all. It should be based on your symptoms, health history, risk factors, and personal goals.

I got so used to being tired, I forgot what feeling good felt like.

As a mom, there’s always someone who needs you. Something that needs to get done. And somehow, taking care of yourself becomes the easiest thing to push to tomorrow.

I did that for a long time.

But somewhere between taking care of everyone else, I started taking care of myself too.

Not by changing everything overnight.

By starting small.

Taking my supplements. Moving my body. Making choices that support how I want to feel. And showing up for myself even when I don’t do it perfectly.

Because the little things you do consistently matter.

I still have tired days. I still have a full plate. But I’m not waiting for life to slow down before I take care of me.

I deserve to feel good in the middle of this life, too.

And so do you.

If you’ve been putting yourself at the bottom of the list and you’re ready to start choosing you again, comment “ME.”

This topic generates a lot of noise. And most of it misses the point.

FDA-approved hormone therapies have gone through rigorous clinical trials. They offer standardized dosing, predictable formulations, and are often covered by insurance. For many patients, they're the right starting point and the right long-term solution.

Compounded hormones serve a different purpose. They're prepared by specialty pharmacies and allow providers to customize the exact dose, combination, and delivery method for each patient. That flexibility matters when someone doesn't respond well to a standard formulation, needs a dose that isn't commercially available, or requires a combination that doesn't exist as an FDA-approved product.

The concern around compounding is quality control. Not all compounding pharmacies operate at the same standard. That's why working with a provider who uses accredited, high-quality pharmacies is essential.

But dismissing compounding entirely means ignoring a tool that solves real clinical problems for patients whose needs don't fit neatly into what's available on a shelf.

And insisting that compounded is always superior ignores the decades of research behind FDA-approved options.

The truth is straightforward: both exist for a reason. The decision should be based on your labs, your symptoms, your response to treatment, and a provider who understands when each option makes the most sense.

This isn't ideology. It's individualized care.

✅ If you're unsure whether your current HRT formulation is the best fit for your body, that's a conversation worth having. Schedule your consultation and let's evaluate what's working, what isn't, and what options are available to you.

📲 Send this to someone caught in the compounded vs. FDA debate who needs a balanced perspective.

One of the biggest things functional medicine has taught me is that feeling tired all the time isn’t something I just have to accept.

When I started looking deeper into my own health, several of my micronutrients were not where they needed to be. Correcting those deficiencies made a noticeable difference in my energy and how I felt overall.

But I’ve also learned that optimizing your health isn’t a one-and-done thing. Levels can change. Life changes. Stress, nutrition, hormones, and so many other factors can affect what your body needs.

That’s why I continue to monitor my own labs, especially when I notice old symptoms starting to creep back in.

Sometimes fatigue is your body telling you it needs something. You just have to know where to look.

HAIR LOSS ISN’T ONE PROBLEM. WE STOP TREATING IT LIKE IT IS.

Most clinics hand you the same protocol regardless of why your hair is thinning — one serum, one laser cap, one “hope it works” plan. That’s a shot in the dark, not a treatment.

At ProSkin, we start by finding out WHY.

🔬 Genetic testing (when indicated) to understand your unique predisposition
🩺 Inside-out evaluation — hormones, nutrient status, and root-cause drivers, not just the scalp
💉 Targeted protocols built around what your labs and biology actually show
📈 A plan that evolves with your results, not a one-size-fits-all package

Hair health is a whole-body story. We read the whole book before we write the plan.

This is the difference between doing something for your hair and doing the right thing for YOUR hair.
