"A few years ago I was driving to my job as a preschool teacher and was hit head-on by an oncoming car. My injuries included a lacerated liver, sheered-off colon, badly-bruised heart, pelvic hematoma, 12 broken bones, and a concussion that lasted for 4 months. The police officer at the scene later told me that no one thought I was going to survive. Despite all this, I was thrilled to have been given a second chance at life. Before the accident, I was unhappy with how my life was unfolding and I knew did not want to die this way. I also knew I had a long road to recovery, but I was willing to do the work. My physical therapist helped me re-learn everything, from lifting myself out of my wheelchair, to standing, to taking my first steps. She drastically improved my quality of life. I will forever be grateful to her, and I still keep in touch with her to this day. I am now living the life that I deserve to live. I am living with a happy heart!" - Kristin
