Dr. Jarod earned his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from The University of Iowa in 2009, and his Doctor of Dental Surgery from The University of Iowa in 2013. He earned his Certificate in Ped

iatric Dentistry from The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Jarod has received advanced training in behavior management, sedation, hospital dentistry, trauma, special health care needs, interceptive orthodontics, space maintenance, oral hygiene, and dietary counseling. His energetic personality allows him to relate to kids on an individual level. He understands the importance of children having a positive dental experience, and strives to provide the best care tailored to each child’s needs. Dr. Jarod enjoys educating children and their families on the importance of oral health so they can establish good habits for a lifetime of smiles. His goal is to develop relationships with each of his patients to establish a dental home that is welcoming from infancy through adolescence. Dr. Jarod is a member in good standing with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, Iowa Dental Association, and Davenport District Dental Society.

🪥 Do you know which areas kids miss most when brushing?

Many younger children focus on the teeth they can easily see—the front ones—while missing some of the spots where plaque likes to hide.

Commonly missed areas include:

🦷 The back teeth and chewing surfaces
🦷 Gumline
🦷 Newly erupting adult molars
🦷 The inside of the lower front teeth

For the lower front teeth, try turning the toothbrush vertically to help reach behind them.

We recommend parents assist with or supervise brushing until children have the coordination to tie their shoes or write in cursive—usually around ages 7 or 8.

A little extra help now can build healthier brushing habits for life! ❄️🐻‍❄️

🦷 Have you ever wondered where everything goes when we use the suction at the dentist?

Unlike the classic “rinse and spit,” we use suction to collect saliva, water, and debris while we work on your teeth.

From there, it travels through a trap that catches larger particles, down through the office plumbing, and into our vacuum system. Before anything reaches the wastewater system, it also passes through an amalgam separator—an ultra-high filtration device designed to capture mercury and other dental materials.

It is one more behind-the-scenes system that helps us keep our office clean, our patients comfortable, and our environment protected. 🌎

🍦 Summer + Ice Cream = Happy Smiles! 😄🦷

We had a little homemade ice cream celebration at Arctic Dental today to treat our amazing team! ☀️❤️

Here's a fun dental fact: if you're going to enjoy a summer sweet, ice cream is actually one of the better choices. Because it melts quickly, it doesn't hang around your teeth as long as sticky candies, gummies, or caramel.

Want to make your scoop even more smile-friendly? Try mix-ins like:
🥜 Nuts
🍫 Dark chocolate
🥜 Natural peanut butter

These are generally better choices than gummy candies, cookie dough, caramel, or chewy candies that love to stick to your teeth.

The best part? Ice cream brings out BIG smiles—and we love those! 😁

Enjoy your treats, but remember; while ice cream is often less sticky than many candies because it melts away, it still contains sugar, so enjoying it in moderation and brushing afterward (or rinsing with water if you can't brush) is still the best advice.

🐾❄️ We’ve got a new neighbor at Arctic Dental! ❄️🐾

Our artwork has officially arrived outside the office, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome this larger-than-life addition to our Arctic family.

☀️ 8:00 AM:
Scrubs are clean ✔️
Patience is at 100% 😎
Ready to see tiny smiles, hand out stickers, sing the ABCs while brushing, and tell every kid they’re “the best helper ever” 💙

🌙 5:00 PM:
Coffee = gone
Energy = nonexistent
Back = hurting 😵
Covered in toothpaste, glitter, bubbles, stickers, and probably someone else’s snack crumbs 😂
We survive. Barely. 💀

But honestly? There’s nothing better than helping little patients feel brave, confident, and excited about the dentist. Even on the chaotic days, peds dentistry is still the best job ever 💕🦷
