When Paul Clincy walked out of prison in December 2025 after serving more than 50 years, the world was almost unrecognizable. Five decades of advances in technology, transportation, and daily life had completely reshaped society. Yet Paul stepped into his new chapter with a genuine smile, a grateful heart, and a clear rule for himself: keep moving forward, never looking back.
Connected through Goodwill’s Reentry / Offender Success program, Paul met staff member Tony Romanelli. "I didn’t know what to expect at first," Paul admits. "I was surprised at what they were able to offer me. I learned that Goodwill is here and willing to help me get back on my feet."
Goodwill helped with basic essentials and getting his driver’s license, but Paul’s strong desire for independence quickly took center stage. Wanting to earn his own way, he took full ownership of rebuilding his life. Step by step, Paul reached major milestones: earning his driver’s license, purchasing his own vehicle, and securing an apartment of his own. He also built a strong support network through the CLEAR Group at Kingdom Life Church.
For Tony Romanelli, walking alongside Paul has been deeply inspiring. "The world Paul returned to could easily overwhelm anyone after so many years," Tony shares. "But he embraced every change with humility, determination, and an eagerness to learn. He often tells me, 'Nothing or nobody is going to take my smile away,' and he truly lives by those words every day."
Choosing to focus on growth rather than excuses, Paul treasures life’s simplest blessings—his freedom, his independence, and the opportunity to make his own decisions.
When asked what he would say to someone hesitating to reach out for support, Paul’s message is simple and direct: "Go for it and do not wait. Goodwill is there and always willing to help. Don’t be afraid to ask."
Today, with a stable foundation and an undefeated outlook, Paul continues to move ahead with quiet strength, proven resilience, and a smile that belongs entirely to him.
