🎡 Fair food, flu shots, and flying axes—oh my!

Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System was thrilled to join the Tulsa State Fair this year! At Veterans Village, our staff enjoyed meeting Veterans and their families, providing flu shots, and learning more about what matters most to them and their loved ones. 💙🇺🇸

Dr. Kimberly Denning joined in the fair fun, too—even trying her hand at axe throwing! 🪓 Talk about taking a swing at a great day!

Researchers using data from VA’s Million Veteran Program found that a genetic risk model can accurately predict breast cancer risk in women Veterans, which can lead to personalized screenings based on risk.

✅ Know your enrollment window: 3 months before through 3 months after your birthday month.
✅ Review how Medicare, VA health care, and TRICARE For Life work together.
✅ Confirm your TRICARE eligibility and Medicare Part A and Part B requirements.

Muskogee VA Center for Development and Civic Engagement Honors 100-Year-Old HBPC Veteran Calvin “Cal” Asay

Calvin “Cal” Asay, a cherished Home-Based Primary Care (HBPC) Veteran, recently celebrated his 100th birthday. Jamie McCoy, his dedicated HBPC social worker, reached out to the Muskogee VA Center for Development and Civic Engagement (CDCE) to ask how the VA could honor this monumental milestone.
Muskogee CDCE quickly sprang into action. Because Mr. Asay is homebound, his family suggested a parade—and the community rallied together to make it happen. A fire truck, police cars, VA volunteers, and community members lined the road to celebrate this remarkable occasion.

In addition to the parade, Muskogee CDCE arranged a congratulatory letter from VA Secretary Douglas Collins and a commemorative coin frame. These gifts, along with a birthday cake, were presented to Mr. Asay.

Surrounded by his wife, family, and HBPC team, Mr. Asay was brought to the driveway to watch the parade. With a big smile, he told everyone, “Y’all might not know this, but I’m 100.” Everyone cheered as they celebrated this remarkable Veteran.

Adding to the uniqueness of the celebration, Cal’s wife will also turn 100 this coming May. Together, they recently celebrated 80 years of marriage—a truly extraordinary testament to a lifetime of love and commitment.

Talk with your healthcare provider about your personal risk and when screening is right for you. A simple conversation or scheduled mammogram can make a meaningful difference. Let’s encourage one another to prioritize breast health, share reliable information, and ensure no one faces this journey alone. 💗

We're excited to welcome Furbabies to Jack C Montgomery for an afternoon focused on finding loving forever homes for pets in need!

Furbabies will be onsite with adoptable dogs, giving employees and Veterans a chance to meet some wonderful pets and learn more about the adoption process.

🐶 Bonus: TagOk will also be onsite making FREE Pet ID tags — bring your own pet's info and get a tag made on the spot!
