🚔 What an incredible visit! Last week, we had the honor of welcoming cadets from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Cadet Lawman Academy to the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center!

Our team and patients loved watching the cadets perform! The cadets personally thanked the Veterans we care for which brought smiles all around and served as a powerful reminder of the shared commitment to service that connects law enforcement and those who have served in uniform.

Today we honor the remarkable life and legacy of Mr. Morris Neighbors—World War II veteran, educator, coach, principal, and community leader.

As a teenager, Morris answered the call to serve his country during World War II, enlisting in the U.S. Navy at just 17 years old. He served aboard the USS *Leutze* in some of the most significant battles of the Pacific Theater, including Leyte Gulf, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. Wounded during a kamikaze attack, he was awarded the Purple Heart for his sacrifice and courage.

After returning home, Morris took advantage of the GI Bill to attend Oklahoma State University, where he played baseball and graduated in 1950. He then dedicated his life to shaping the next generation as a teacher, coach, and principal. Countless students benefited from his leadership, character, and commitment to education.

Mr. Neighbors represented the very best of the Greatest Generation—a man who served his nation in war and his community in peace. His life reminds us that true leadership is measured not only by acts of bravery on the battlefield, but also by years of service to others.

Thank you, Mr. Neighbors, for your sacrifice, your leadership, and your lasting impact on Oklahoma and the many lives you touched.

We were proud to welcome the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Cadet Lawman Academy to the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center for a special visit honoring our Veteran patients.

During their visit, each of the Academy's six platoons performed a cadence shout-out, filling the air with energy, enthusiasm, and patriotism. Following the cadences, the cadets took time to personally greet our Veterans, shaking hands and thanking them for their service.

These meaningful interactions created lasting memories for both the Veterans and cadets, bridging generations through a shared commitment to service, sacrifice, and respect.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Oklahoma Cadet Academy for taking the time to honor our Veterans and for demonstrating the values of leadership, discipline, and gratitude. Your visit was a powerful reminder that the spirit of service lives on in the next generation.

Join Us for a Special Salute to Our Veterans!

On Wednesday, June 10 at 1:30 p.m., six platoons from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Cadet Lawman Academy will visit the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Muskogee to honor our nation's heroes.

Cadets will greet veterans, staff, and visitors and perform their marching cadence as a tribute to the men and women who have served our country. This special event is an opportunity for the community to come together in appreciation of our veterans and to witness the next generation of leaders demonstrating respect, discipline, and service.

We invite veterans, family members, VA staff, and community members to join us for this memorable occasion as we celebrate and honor those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.
