South Carolina Medicaid has changed how some members receive their medical benefits.

Beginning January 1, 2026, certain Medicaid members started receiving most of their medical benefits through a Healthy Connections managed care plan. This change is sometimes called the Medicaid Managed Care Carve-In.

If you have both Medicare and Medicaid, receive services through certain waivers, or live in a nursing facility, this change may affect how some of your medical care is covered.

One important thing to remember: your waiver services are not being replaced by managed care. Waiver services continue to be authorized and paid through fee-for-service Medicaid.

Our infographic breaks down who may be affected, what changes, what stays the same, and what steps you may need to take.

If you are affected, make sure you:

• Watch your mail for information from Healthy Connections or your health plan
• Know which managed care plan you are enrolled in
• Check that your doctors, specialists, and prescriptions are covered
• Ask questions if something does not look right

Big Air hosts a sensory friendly event every third Sunday for families. Note the start time now is 10am.
