To understand what this honor means to me, I have to go back to the beginning.
When the first class was inducted into the World Massage Festival Hall of Fame in 2006, two of the names honored were Ruthie Hardee and Dr. Ida Rolf; two women whose work would profoundly shape the direction of my own career. Ruthie pioneered the barefoot bar work that became the foundation of DeepFeet Bar Therapy, while Ida Rolf’s work helped transform the way our profession understands fascia, structure, and movement.
TODAY is the day, 20 years ago that Ruthie and Ida were inducted!!
Now, twenty years later, I stand here practicing and teaching at a very rare intersection of those legacies.
I have spent more than two decades practicing Ashiatsu and carrying Ruthie’s DeepFeet work forward. I also practice & teach Sarga Bodywork, a barefoot myofascial modality inspired & influenced, in part, by the structural integration work of Ida Rolf.
I don’t take that connection lightly.
Being inducted into the same Hall of Fame that honored Ruthie Hardee and Ida Rolf in its very first year feels incredibly full-circle. I am not here because I invented their work. I am here because I have devoted my career to learning it, practicing it, protecting it, and passing it on.
As an instructor, my goal has never been simply to teach therapists where to place their feet. My role is to guide, mentor, and help therapists recognize what they are capable of, whether they are brand new to bodywork or have been practicing longer than some of their clients have been alive.
I want therapists at every level to feel inspired to keep learning, trust their own growth, and build careers that are sustainable for both their bodies and their lives.
I’ve never wanted to be the best therapist in the room. I’ve want to help create more great therapists. If I’ve managed to light that spark in even a few people… then every mile, every class, every challenge, every championship and every barefoot step has been worth it.
To be recognized for doing that work is an honor I carry with enormous gratitude.
Thank you.
