WALKING DOUGLAS COUNTY??
TAKE smaller STEPS!

Douglas County is an incredible place to explore on foot—from open spaces and trails to rolling hills and scenic climbs. But all those beautiful changes in elevation can also lead to injuries if we aren't careful.

One simple trick can make a big difference:
Take smaller steps as the hill gets steeper.

Shorter, quicker steps:
* Reduce the workload on your legs and back
* Keep your body centered over your feet
* Improve balance
* Help control your breathing
* Reduce the risk of slips, falls, and strains

The same principle applies when walking (or running) downhill. Don't let your stride become long and uncontrolled. Stay balanced and take shorter steps.

On a wide uphill trail, you can even create your own switchbacks by walking slightly side-to-side rather than straight up the steepest part.

And remember—those aren't "baby steps."

They're experienced mountain-hiker steps!

Enjoy Douglas County, stay balanced, and make it to the top—and back down—in good shape.
See you on the trail!
