The owner of The Shirakawa property has generously offered us temporary use of their home at the front of the property to see patients in-person! Starting this week, Dr. Patrick Yeakey and Denise Carey, FNP-c will be scheduling and seeing patients there - same location, house in front. PLEASE keep in mind this is a residence, and we respect their personal property in addition to the fact that it won't be "to code" as we were before. There are steps to climb for most patients who can, and a ramp in the side/back for those who need it, but we need to keep creative on how to utilize the spaces! We do ask that if can, shoes be removed unless they are protective against open wounds or injuries.

We have limited clinic supplies, but are working to re-order much of what we loss. We desire to try our best to serve you and your needs, and continue to provide a place of peace, comfort and healing.

Dr. Doede (myself), Eileen Crane PT (physical therapist), and Cindy Schrader, PhD (psychologist) are on hold at the moment, and we can notify you when available for in-person care. Me'Shel Wilson, LMT (medical massage therapist) has another temporary location on South Point Road, where she is able to see self-pay and MVA clients for massage! Please call or text her at (808) 987-7490 to schedule. Eileen has written a message for all of you, which I will post separately.

Due to the damage from Hurricane Lala, Ka'ū Wellness is closed. We do not know and cannot predict when and if we will be able to re-open. All of our community has a long journey ahead to recover, and we will do our best to keep you updated on our status. We hope to come up with ways to continue to meet your medical needs.

Aloha, Ka'ū Wellness Ohana! There are some big changes coming for us all this new year. Ka'ū Wellness in Ocean View is moving to Ka'ū Wellness in Waiohinu, located on the historic Shirakawa property. All practitioners will be practicing out of the Shirakawa location starting 1/2/2026. There is also an announcement planned for the beginning of the year regarding the Ocean View Community. Thank you for your support and we regard you all highly!

Also, Denise Meyer has had to fly to California to help care for her mother. She is helping us as she can remotely, trying to help tend to messages. We appreciate your support of her, and your support and patience with us as we are working together as a team to care for you.

In regards to the options we offer to the community for health care services, here is an affirmation about the operations of our clinic: NO ONE WILL BE DENIED ACCESS TO SERVICES DUE TO INABILITY TO PAY. A SLIDING FEE SCHEDULE IS AVAILABLE BASED ON FAMILY SIZE AND INCOME. This is true for both the Ka'ū Wellness Clinic and the non-profit clinic, Ts'Dakah of Ka'ū Wellness.

We also now have Vaccines For Children (VFC) vaccines at our Ocean View clinic. Available to our current patients and their families (children 18 years old and younger). We can discuss with you informed consent, current guidelines, and alternative vaccination schedules.

You do not have to have health insurance to have health care!

We are pleased to announce an additional option at Ka'ū Wellness called Ka'ū Wellness Kakou, a membership-type program available only to those without health insurance. Included in a set monthly fee would be a monthly medical visit either in-person or by telemedicine, minor procedures, e-mail and texting communications, and a yearly well visit. 0-17 years of age ($50/month, $600/year), 18-59 years of age ($100/month, $1200/year), 60 years of age and older ($150/month, $1800/year). Further discounted services to come.

We also still offer self-pay rates to those without insurance for services rendered if one is not interested in the membership plan, and can refer to our affiliate non-profit, "Ts'Dakah, of Ka'ū Wellness" for those who cannot afford the set prices.

Many mahalos to everyone for your patience with us regarding communications. I apologize to you all for the troubles you have had in trying to reach us. Please be assured we are aware of the problem, and are trying to generate ideas regarding solutions. We simply have many patients and few staff!
First, if you are to call our office, you MUST leave a message for us to call you back with your name, best way to contact you, and general information about your call. We are not able to call you back if you do not leave a message, nor your name and contact information. Denise and Amanda are amazing at trying to call everyone back, if they have a message to do so.
I would like to encourage those of you who are current established patients with Ka'ū Wellness to utilize the Tebra Patient Portal, which allows secure HIPPA-compliant communication with us regarding your health. If you are not currently signed up for our portal, please let us know by e-mail at [email protected]. This is also another effective way to communicate to our office, utilizing this general e-mail address. Please realize that the portal is the only HIPPA-compliant communication, so please do not share information by e-mail or text that you would be concerned about not being secure.
Facebook Messenger is NOT the best way to reach us, as I do not check Messenger frequently. We can initiate either a text or e-mail to you to which you can reply, and the whole office sees those.
Lastly, please stop in at either location to get help face to face! We love to see you, and matters can be handled that way efficiently. Ocean View location on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 3:30pm and Fridays 9am to 2pm. Shirakawa/Waiohinu location Monday through Thursday 9am to 3pm.
We are definitely a busy clinic (good problem to have!), and are doing our best, so we appreciate your help in making relationship together efficient and effective.
