Big things are happening for health care in Bristol Bay.
Cama’i Community Health Center has been selected to receive $250,000 through Alaska’s Rural Health Transformation Program for the first phase of our Bristol Bay Regional Specialty Care Hub Transformation Project.

As our core medical services prepare to move into our new clinic, we have an incredible opportunity to give our existing clinic a new purpose, transforming it into a regional hub for specialty care, wellness, and community connection.

We aren’t just building a new clinic. We are building the pieces of a stronger regional health care system.

This phase will fund the design work needed to thoughtfully plan that transformation. It will help us determine how the existing building can best support visiting specialists, telehealth, optometry, behavioral health, and other services, and provide the detailed plans and cost estimates we will need to pursue funding for the actual renovation. Future phases will require additional funding, and we intend to continue pursuing RHTP and other opportunities to bring the full vision to life.

We currently host chiropractic services, and we are planning to bring optometry services this fall/winter. The specialty hub will give these services appropriate, dedicated space and create opportunities to bring even more specialty providers to our region over time.

The lower level of the existing clinic is also envisioned as a flexible wellness, meeting, training, and community space. A place that can be used by Cama’i, our partners, and our community to support health and well-being throughout Bristol Bay.

For generations, living in rural Alaska has too often meant traveling hundreds of miles for services that people elsewhere can access close to home.

We believe Cama’i can help the Bristol Bay region build something different.

A regional specialty hub that brings more providers and services to Bristol Bay.

Space for wellness, learning, partnership, and community.
A health care system designed around the realities of the people who live here.

We are not there yet. But we are deliberately putting the pieces in place, and this award is an important next step.

After years of planning, partnership, and perseverance, Camai Community Health Center is breaking ground on our new health center!

This $9 million expansion project is an investment in the future of healthcare for our community. The new facility will expand access to primary care, urgent and emergency services, behavioral health, laboratory and imaging services, pharmacy, and include a dedicated Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) suite.

This project would not have been possible without the support of our community, our partners, the Bristol Bay Borough, and our federal delegation. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped turn this vision into reality.

Whether you've been with us since the beginning or are simply excited to see what's next, we invite you to come celebrate with us as we take the first official step toward the future of healthcare in Bristol Bay.

🚧 Construction Begins This Weekend at Camai Community Health Center! 🚧

The future of healthcare in Bristol Bay is officially underway!

Beginning this weekend, construction will start on Camai Community Health Center's new facility. While we're incredibly excited to begin this long-awaited project, there will be some changes to parking and building access.

Please watch for posted signs when you arrive.

During construction:
• Patient parking will be located in the lower parking lot.
• The main wooden walkway will be closed.
• Please use the lower sidewalk and walk up the hill to enter the clinic through the existing entrance.
• If you need assistance or have mobility concerns, please let our staff know; we're happy to help with an alternate entrance.

We appreciate your patience as we work through these temporary changes. Every load of dirt moved and every piece of equipment on site brings us one step closer to a beautiful new facility that will expand healthcare services for our community for generations to come.

Our Leader Creek Clinic will commence operations on Monday, the 8th, at 9am. The site will be open seven days a week from 9am to 3pm.

We’re excited to kick off our April Mental Health Challenge! Students in grades 7–12 will be competing against each other for mental wellness prizes they’ve selected, and we invite you to help us build awareness and encouragement throughout our school community.

Students can grab their calendar challenge forms from the schools front office and earn points in the following ways:

1 point for each daily checkmark (10 cups of water, 7–9 hours of sleep, 15 minutes of cardio)
5 bonus points for completing a monthly intention
2 points for each “something new I learned” (this can be anything, not just school-related)
10 points for each digital detox day (no screens)

Our goal is to make mental health visible, engaging, and an integral part of our daily routines as we move into the brighter months. This time of year is especially important for supporting mental wellness, and this challenge is an opportunity for students—and our broader community—to build positive habits and challenge patterns that may have developed during the winter months.

We encourage you to talk with students about the challenge, celebrate their efforts, and consider participating alongside them to model healthy habits. Small, consistent actions can make a meaningful difference.

All April Challenge forms will be due May 1st, and results will be announced at our assembly on May 7th.
