🥜 Go Nutty! 🥜
Despite their high-fat content, nuts are still an excellent source of nutrition and are beneficial to your health in many ways.
✅ They are loaded with magnesium, which is important for regulating muscle and nerve function, and also plays a role in maintaining a healthy immune system.
✅ Additionally, they contain lots of vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps protect your cells from damage caused by free radicals.
✅ Nuts are also high in fiber, which can help keep your digestive system working smoothly and can contribute to a feeling of fullness.
Overall, adding nuts to your diet can be a delicious and nutritious way to support your overall health and well-being!

👀 We all know how tempting it can be to scroll through our phones or binge-watch our favorite shows constantly. But did you know that excessive screen time can negatively affect our well-being? It's true! 🙇🏻‍♀️

🧠 Spending too much time in front of screens can lead to decreased productivity, difficulty focusing, and even affect our mental health. Taking breaks from our devices and engaging in other activities that nourish our minds and bodies are important. 💪🏼

🌞 So, what can we do to reduce our screen time? Here are a few ideas:
1️⃣ Set screen time limits: Use the built-in features on your phone or download apps that help you track and limit your screen time. 🕒
2️⃣ Create tech-free zones: Designate areas in your home where screens are not allowed, such as the dining table or bedroom. This encourages more meaningful interactions and relaxation. 🏡
3️⃣ Explore new hobbies: Instead of reaching for your phone, try picking up a book, going for a walk, or learning a new skill. There's a whole world of offline activities waiting for us! 🌍
4️⃣ Connect with loved ones: Spend quality time with family and friends, engage in face-to-face conversations, or plan fun activities together. Building strong relationships offline is priceless. 💑

🙌🏼 Let's make a conscious effort to reduce our screen time and enjoy the benefits of a more balanced and fulfilled life. Remember, it's all about finding the right balance! ⚖️

We're wrapping up our Valuable Vitamin posts with one everyone probably knows: Vitamin C. This vitamin plays an important role in growing and developing tissues, healing wounds and keeping your immune system strong.

What exactly does it do?
-Fights cell damage and disease
Vitamin C is an antioxidant, a natural chemical found in certain foods. You can think of antioxidants like invisible superheroes inside your body.

-Protects your eyes
Vitamin “see” indeed: This antioxidant is thought to help ward off cataracts and slow the progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a condition that causes people to lose their central vision.

-Improves iron absorption
Some plant foods, including beans and spinach, have iron in them, but they also have properties that make it hard for your body to access that iron. Enter vitamin C, which acts as iron’s wingman.

-Helps with wound healing
Vitamin C encourages collagen growth, which is an important part of your body’s healing process.

-Promotes healthy skin
We’re mostly talking about the kind of vitamin C that you find in foods, but it’s worth noting that topical creams and serums made with vitamin C can do all kinds of good things for your skin.

Here are some good sources of vitamin C:
🍊Citrus fruits
🥬Cruciferous vegetables
🥔 White potatoes
🫑 Red peppers
🍓 Strawberries
🍅 Tomatoes
🥝 Kiwifruit

For peak freshness and nutrients, choose fruits and vegetables that are in season where you live. Frozen fruit and veggies are a great option, too, especially if you live in climates where seasonal produce is limited.

This week we are showcasing some Valuable Vitamins! It's no doubt vitamins play an important function in maintaining good health. Let's dive deep into a few - you might learn something new! Next up: Vitamin B12.

Why is vitamin B12 good for you?

- It helps with brain function
Especially as we age, vitamin B12 is vital for brain health. Some studies suggest that the vitamin may even help with preventing cognitive decline. If you become vitamin B12 deficient, it can affect your memory and cognition.

- Forms healthy red blood cells and DNA
One main benefit that vitamin B12 provides is producing red blood cells. Why is this important? Red blood cells deliver oxygen throughout your body, which turns into the energy needed to keep your body functioning in a healthy way.

- Boosts energy levels
If your vitamin B12 level is normal, there isn’t much research that suggests taking vitamin B12 will boost your energy. But if you’re currently vitamin B12 deficient, chances are you’re struggling with weakness and fatigue.

- May reduce risk of macular degeneration
Some research also suggests that if you become vitamin B12 deficient, it can increase your risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which is a gradual type of vision loss common for people over 50.

Here are some foods that are a good source of vitamin B12:
🥛 Milk
🥣 Fortified cereals
🥚 Eggs
🥄 Yogurt
🍣 Salmon
🐠 Tuna
🥩 Liver and kidneys
🦪 Clams

This week we are showcasing some Valuable Vitamins! It's no doubt vitamins play an important function in maintaining good health. Let's look at Vitamin A today.

What does vitamin A do for your body?
👁 Healthy vision
One of vitamin A’s most important roles is to preserve and maintain your vision.

🦠 Aids immune system function
Vitamin A strengthens your immune system by supporting white blood cells and the mucus membranes in your lungs, intestines and urinary tract.

🩺 Reduces your cancer risk
Vitamin A plays a key role in the healthy growth and development of your cells.

✨ Keeps your skin clear
Many people claim vitamin A is an effective treatment for acne and age-related skin changes, including wrinkles and age spots.

🦷 Keeps bones and teeth strong
Vitamin A helps maintain proper bone growth and development, lowering your risk of injury or disability.

Here are some foods that are good sources of vitamin A:
Dairy products: Dairy is an excellent source of vitamin A, from milk and yogurt to cheese and butter. Milk, low-fat spreads and many cereals are often fortified with vitamins, including vitamin A.

Eggs: One hard-boiled egg contains 75 micrograms (mcg), or 8% of the recommended daily amount for vitamin A. Eggs also contain the carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin, which may help protect your vision.

Fish: Oily fish are among the best sources of vitamin A. Try salmon, mackerel or Bluefin tuna.

Liver and liver products: Liver is the best food source of vitamin A, including cod liver oil and liver pâté. Foods like liver sausage are so rich in this essential nutrient that you may need to limit it to no more than one meal a week to avoid eating too much.

Fruits and vegetables: Oil, seeds and nuts provide a good dose of vitamin A, along with most deep yellow-orange and dark green, leafy vegetables and fruits.

First up: Zinc
The many health benefits of zinc may include:
1. Shortening a cold ~ Zinc helps make immune system cells that fight germs.
2. Protecting eyesight ~ Your retinas have a high concentration of zinc. Extra zinc in the form of supplements may help protect your retinas against harmful free radicals that cause cell damage.
3. Lowering blood sugar and cholesterol ~ For reasons that aren’t clear, people with Type 2 diabetes are often low in zinc. Some experts believe these low zinc levels may make the disease worsen quickly. Different studies suggest that zinc may lower blood sugar and high cholesterol in people with Type 2 diabetes.
4. Promotes wound healing ~ Research is still underway to see if oral zinc supplements may speed the healing of diabetes-related foot ulcers and other skin ulcers.

Foods high in zinc include:
Beef.
Chicken and turkey.
Eggs.
Fortified milk and whole-grain cereals, pastas, breads and other products.
Nuts, seeds and legumes like beans and lentils.
Pork.
Shellfish like oysters, crab and lobster.
