Healthy relationships don’t just happen they require attention, communication, and care over time.

Couples counseling isn’t only for relationships in crisis. Many couples seek therapy to strengthen communication, better understand each other, navigate life transitions, improve intimacy, work through recurring conflicts, or simply create a healthier foundation moving forward.

At Counseling Works, our therapists help couples move beyond surface-level arguments and better understand the patterns, triggers, and unmet needs underneath them.

Together, we work toward building stronger connection, healthier communication, and more secure attachment.

Whether you’re dating, engaged, married, parenting, rebuilding after hurt, or simply feeling disconnected, couples therapy can provide a supportive space to grow together instead of apart.

We offer couples counseling across our Naperville, Lemont, Frankfort, and Shorewood locations, along with telehealth options for busy schedules.

Couples therapy isn’t about picking sides or rehashing the same arguments over and over.

At Counseling Works, we focus on helping couples better understand each other, communicate more effectively, and reconnect in meaningful ways.

Our therapists use evidence-based approaches like EFT and the Gottman Method to guide sessions with intention, helping couples move beyond frustration and toward healthier patterns and stronger connection.

Whether you’re navigating stress, communication challenges, parenting, life transitions, or simply feeling disconnected, therapy can provide the support and tools needed to move forward together.

We also offer:
• Individual sessions alongside couples work
• Evening & weekend appointments
• Telehealth options for busy schedules

When life gets busy, relationships can easily slip into “divide and conquer” mode , separate schedules, separate routines, and very little intentional time together.

That’s why we love spotlighting local businesses like HOTWORX that encourage wellness, consistency, and connection.

Their 24-hour infrared sauna workouts make it easier for couples to prioritize movement and self-care, even during busy seasons of life.

Whether you attend workouts together or simply support one another’s routines, shared wellness habits can strengthen connection both physically and emotionally.

Sometimes the smallest intentional steps help couples feel more aligned again.

If you’re looking for ways to reconnect, build healthier routines, or simply spend more quality time together, this could be a great place to start. 🤍

“What if I don’t click with my therapist?” 🤍

This is one of the most common concerns people have before starting therapy and it’s completely valid.

The relationship between a client and therapist matters. Feeling safe, comfortable, and understood is an important part of the therapeutic process.

At Counseling Works, we want you to find the right fit. If a clinician does not feel like the best match for your needs or personality, we will help guide you toward someone who may be a better fit within our practice. And if needed, we are always happy to provide external referrals as well.

Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, and finding the right connection can make all the difference. 🤍

If you have questions about getting started, our team is here to help.

Disconnection in relationships is not always obvious. Sometimes it happens slowly, in the conversations that stop happening, the inside jokes that fade, or the feeling that you are no longer truly known by one another.

According to research from The Gottman Institute, couples wait an average of six years after problems begin before seeking help.

Often, distance builds quietly over time through missed moments of connection.

Our clinician Veronica Torres recommends trying a simple appreciation ritual tonight: before bed, each partner shares one thing they noticed and valued about the other that day.

Small moments of connection can create meaningful shifts over time.

If you and your partner are struggling to reconnect, therapy can help create space for understanding, communication, and healing. 🤍

It didn’t happen all at once.

There wasn’t necessarily one big fight, one defining moment, or one clear turning point. It was more gradual than that. A slow drift that snuck up on you both while managing careers, raising kids, paying bills, and simply trying to keep everything running.

And then one day, you realize something feels different.

Conversations stay on the surface.

Tension sits just underneath. You’re sharing a home, a schedule, maybe even a bed, but not the closeness you used to have. And neither of you quite knows how to reconnect.

If any of this feels familiar, you’re not alone. And you’re not too far gone.

Our May newsletter includes resources, insights, and support for couples looking to strengthen communication, rebuild connection, and navigate challenges together.

We’re so excited to welcome Brittany Smith, LPC to Counseling Works 🤍

Brittany brings a thoughtful, personalized approach to her work with clients navigating anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, and life transitions.

She meets each person where they are, blending evidence-based techniques with creative, relational work to make therapy feel approachable and meaningful.

As Brittany shares, “A powerful shift can happen when we slow down and begin to notice patterns in our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.”

She creates a space where clients can safely explore those patterns, often using storytelling and creative expression to make the process feel less overwhelming and more accessible.

We’re so glad to have her as part of our team in Frankfort and Shorewood.
If you’re ready to get started, we’re here to help 🤍
