Anxiety. Insomnia. Weight gain. Heavy periods. Hair loss.
Many women are told these symptoms are simply a “normal part of aging.”

But what if they’re signs of a hormone imbalance that’s been overlooked for years?

In this clip from the SpelLIFE Podcast, Dr. Maristany discusses the critical role progesterone plays during perimenopause and why declining progesterone levels can create a cascade of symptoms that affect everything from sleep and energy to mood, metabolism, and overall quality of life.

Too often, women spend years struggling before getting answers.

The good news? Understanding what’s happening beneath the surface can be the first step toward feeling like yourself again. Hormones matter. Finding the root cause matters!
Find the SpelLIFE Podcast to hear more of this conversation and learn why progesterone is one of the most misunderstood hormones in women’s health today.

For years, many women were told that hormone replacement therapy was something to fear.
But the conversation around HRT has changed significantly as we’ve gained a deeper understanding of the data, the type of hormones used, and how different therapies impact long-term health.

In this clip from a recent conversation on the SpelLIFE Podcast, Dr. Maristany breaks down how the early interpretation of the Women’s Health Initiative study shaped public perception, why so many women abruptly stopped hormones, and what later analysis revealed about estrogen, progesterone, and breast cancer risk.

This is exactly why context matters in medicine.
Not every hormone is the same.
Not every patient is the same.
And women deserve informed conversations, not fear-based blanket statements.

“He literally saved my life”. That’s how (legendary Lynard Skynard lead guitarist) describes the dramatic turnaround he experienced after receiving treatment during a serious health battle.

After becoming critically ill, Rickey credits Dr. Maristany (), and the medical team who helped him access the care he needed at exactly the right time. What followed was a recovery so sudden that those around him could hardly believe the transformation.

In this clip, Rickey shares the experience in his own words and reflects on the treatment that changed everything.

We spend so much of our lives working toward our goals, building businesses, raising families, and creating memories.

We take it for granted until we don’t have the health to enjoy it.
This Fourth of July, take a moment to appreciate your health and remember that investing in it is one of the most important investments you’ll ever make.

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and safe Independence Day. 🇺🇸

Every day, I have conversations with patients asking about the next supplement, the next trend, or the next breakthrough treatment.

But some of the biggest improvements often come from getting the fundamentals right.

Hydrate first thing in the morning.
Eat enough fiber to feed your microbiome.
Move your body after meals.
Protect your sleep like your health depends on it.
Because it does.

Getting back to the basics is sometimes the most powerful tools we have for building a healthier gut and a healthier body.

Medicine is changing. My approach starts where conventional medicine often stops.
Functional medicine asks different questions. Instead of simply asking “What disease do you have?” we ask “Why is this happening in the first place?”

My goal is to uncover the root causes driving dysfunction, whether that’s inflammation, gut health issues, environmental exposures, nutrient deficiencies, metabolic imbalances, chronic infections, or lifestyle factors that have been building for years.

Every patient has a unique story. Every symptom has a reason. And true healing begins when we take the time to understand both.

As an Internal Medicine physician and Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner (IFMCP), I combine the best of traditional medicine with a deeper investigation into the factors influencing long-term health.

The goal isn’t just to help you feel better.
It’s to help you function better.

ITALY!
Fresh ingredients.
Fewer chemicals.
Organic produce
Non GMO
Fewer Pesticides
More walking.
More time around the table.
Less obsession with convenience.

Meanwhile, in the U.S., ultra-processed foods have become the norm. We’ve normalized ingredient labels that read more like chemistry experiments than actual food.

Europe has banned or heavily restricted many additives, pesticides, dyes, and ingredients still widely used throughout the American food supply.
That matters. Because health isn’t just about calories. It’s about what information we’re giving the body every single day.

The longer I practice functional medicine, the more convinced I become that our environment is shaping modern disease far more than people realize.

And honestly… Italy reminded me what living well is supposed to look like. 🇮🇹

One of the most rewarding parts of practicing functional medicine is watching patients reclaim their lives. 🙏
Not just “manage symptoms.”
Not just get through the day.
But truly feel vibrant, energized, hopeful, and healthy again.

Too often, people spend years being told their fatigue, inflammation, pain, brain fog, or declining health is simply “normal aging.”
It’s not.
The body has an incredible ability to heal when you identify the root causes of dysfunction and give it the support it actually needs.

Stories like Monica’s are why I’m so passionate about this work. Helping patients transform the way they feel, function, and live is what Maristany Medical is all about.
Thank you for trusting me to be part of your health journey.

If you’ve been searching for answers and feel like nobody is looking at the full picture, functional medicine may be the missing piece.

Walking through Italy recently, I couldn’t stop thinking about this.
The ancient world celebrated strength, vitality, movement, symmetry, discipline, and physical excellence because those traits reflected how people actually lived. These sculptures weren’t fantasy characters. Many were modeled after real athletes and warriors.

Now compare that to modern culture.
Ultra-processed food on every corner.
Constant stress.
Sedentary lifestyles.
Artificial light.
Poor sleep.
Endless convenience.
Chronic inflammation normalized by the millions.
Metabolic disease of epic proportion

And somehow we’ve convinced ourselves this decline is simply “aging.”
The human body hasn’t changed that much in a few thousand years.
But our environment has changed dramatically and our biology is paying the price for it.
