You know when you say “I’m gonna go for a walk to clear my head?”

It turns out the same brain science thats help clear your mind during exercise is also the same mechanism that EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy uses to help process difficult life experiences and trauma.

It’s called bilateral stimulation (BLS).

When both sides of your body are moving and alternating sides (I.e. walking, running, swimming, rowing, skating, etc.) the movement is creating the same action in the brain as when reprocessing happens in EMDR. In EMDR, we use eye movements (light bar or moving dots on a screen), audio, tactile, or a combo of these.

During emotionally painful parts, the BLS is fast so we can get through the tough stuff quickly.

But when we get to the good stuff, like a positive belief we want to really savor, or maybe a space where we can let go of what no longer serves us, sometimes we S-L-O-W it down so we can let the brain absorb all those positive vibes!

So, the next time you head out for that cardio, know that your brain and body are working in tandem to help you to find peace and gain clarity!!

The lobby to my office is on the first floor of building D (D100). Make yourself comfortable and when it’s time for your session, I will come to get you.

📝Do I have to spend time completing paperwork at my first session with you?

All necessary paperwork will have been completed PRIOR to your first session.

👀If we are going to do EMDR as part of my therapy with you, do we start it first session?

The emphasis for the first session is on rapport building and giving you a safe space to share your story. We’ll go over general info about EMDR therapy and how it works. The following sessions will be more EMDR specific if appropriate.
