This 68-year-old patient came into her consultation worried about a common concern: not looking like herself anymore, or looking "different" after surgery. Rather than altering anatomy, a deep plane facelift showcases the bone structure and features that a patient already has, while the neck lift tightens loose skin and repositions underlying muscle to restore a more defined jawline and neck contour.

The first two weeks after surgery, day by day.

This 78-year-old patient underwent a neck and facelift with a lower eyelid lift. This progression starts the day immediately following surgery and runs through two weeks post-op.

Bruising tends to peak around day 3-4 before beginning to fade. Thinner, lighter skin - as well as higher age - are all factors in more noticeable bruising, and this patient did bruise quite a bit. Even so, by two weeks most of it had resolved, which offers a realistic picture of what recovery can look like.

What does board certification actually means? The American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS) is the board that certifies surgeons specifically in facial plastic surgery. Getting there takes 6+ years of specialized training after medical school: a full surgical residency, often followed by dedicated fellowship training (Dr. B completed her specialty training at Vanderbilt University), a two-year case log review, 2 days of written and oral exams, and a peer review by the Board.
