If cannabis and to***co are both smoked, do they affect the lungs in the same way?

That's an important question, especially for medical ma*****na patients who use inhalation as part of their treatment.

Research discussed in our blog found a strong relationship between cigarette smoking and emphysema, while the same positive association was not found with cannabis smoking. That doesn't mean cannabis smoke is harmless, but it does suggest that cannabis and to***co should not automatically be treated as though they have identical effects on the lungs.

For patients, understanding those differences is another part of making informed decisions about how they use their medicine.

If you're new to Florida's medical ma*****na program, your state medical ma*****na card is one important part of gaining legal access to cannabis medicine.

Patients first meet with a qualified physician, are entered into Florida's Medical Ma*****na Use Registry, and apply for their state identification card. Once approved and active, patients can purchase medical cannabis from licensed Florida dispensaries according to their physician certification and state guidelines.

Being part of the medical program also gives patients the opportunity to receive physician guidance and ask questions as they learn what works best for their needs.
