The DAISY Award celebrates and recognizes nurses by collecting nominations from patients, families, and co-workers as a way to thank nurses for the care and kindness they provide.
Southern New Hampshire Medical Center’s newest DAISY Award winner is Christine Greve, BSN, RN-BC from 3West.

⭐"Christine is deeply respected by her peers for her reliability, knowledge, and collaborative spirit. Her leadership elevates the entire team, creating an environment where both patients and staff thrive."⭐

Christine is widely recognized as an exceptional leader, mentor, and clinical resource whose impact is felt across the entire unit. She leads with thoughtfulness, integrity, and expertise, creating a supportive learning environment where nurses are encouraged to think critically, build confidence, and grow professionally. Rather than simply providing answers, Christine guides staff toward solutions by asking thoughtful questions and connecting them with the right resources, helping develop stronger, more independent caregivers.

Christine consistently goes above and beyond in support of both patients and staff. She maintains strong awareness of patient needs across the unit, steps in during critical situations, and helps coordinate care to support patient safety, outcomes, and throughput. Her proactive attention to details, from ensuring equipment is ready for the next shift to troubleshooting technology issues, helps the team provide safe, effective care without disruption.

Her leadership is respected by nurses, providers, and colleagues alike. Christine’s preparation, communication, and knowledge of each patient make a meaningful difference during daily huddles and help align the interdisciplinary team. Through her reliability, collaborative spirit, and unwavering commitment to excellence, Christine elevates those around her and helps create an environment where patients and staff thrive.

Supporting mental health is a priority at Southern New Hampshire Health, and sometimes, that support comes with four paws and a wagging tail.

Meet Ken, Lisa, and Apollo Stempler, one of Southern New Hampshire Health’s beloved Pup Pals comfort dog teams.

Apollo, a Bernedoodle, has been volunteering with Ken and Lisa for about two and a half years, bringing comfort, smiles, and plenty of tail wags to patients and staff. Before becoming a Pup Pal, Apollo completed basic and advanced dog training, Canine Good Citizen and Advanced Canine Good Citizen training, and certification through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs.

For Ken and Lisa, volunteering is all about the joy Apollo brings to others.

“The joy we spread through Apollo and the looks on the patients’ and staff’s faces,” they shared. “If we can brighten their day for just five minutes, it’s totally worth it.”

Apollo’s favorite part? He loves people, making them happy, and soaking up every belly rub along the way.

The family’s journey as a comfort dog team was inspired by Ken’s mom, who lived in a managed care facility in California. She could not bring her dog with her, but a dog who lived next door visited her every day. Seeing the look on her face made Ken and Lisa realize they wanted to bring that same comfort to others.

Thank you, Ken, Lisa, and Apollo, for sharing your time, compassion, and comfort with our Southern New Hampshire Health community. And for anyone wondering, Apollo can be bribed with sharp cheddar, but only the aged good stuff.

🎧New Podcast Episode!

From pool days and beach trips to backyard cookouts where kiddie pools, buckets, and coolers may be nearby, water is a big part of summer fun, but it also comes with real risks for young children.

In this episode of On Call with Southern New Hampshire Health, we talk with Dr. Karen Morgan, a pediatrician at Southern New Hampshire Health’s Merrimack Pediatrics, about how parents, grandparents, and caregivers can help prevent drowning and keep children safe around water.

Dr. Morgan shares practical guidance on hidden water hazards around the home, pool safety, life jackets, swimming lessons, supervision, CPR, and what families should know before visiting lakes, rivers, or the ocean. With the right layers of protection, water can stay safe, fun, and enjoyable for the whole family.

For the past five years, Victoria has been helping keep Southern New Hampshire Health running smoothly behind the scenes as department assistant for Food and Environmental Services. From supporting department leadership and managing cafeteria financials to handling food invoicing and conference bookings for the hospital, Victoria plays an important role in keeping daily operations on track.

“Assisting department leadership frees up bandwidth for helping patients,” she said.

Victoria was drawn to Southern New Hampshire Health because she enjoys helping others and collaborating with different departments across the organization. What keeps her here is the work-life balance and the strong working relationship she has with her boss.

Outside of work, Victoria enjoys gardening and spending time at the lake with her husband Mike and grandchildren Emma and Roman.

Thank you, Victoria, for all you do!

Moving Beyond the Bedside!

Southern NH Health recently hosted a well-attended Nursing Symposium, welcoming nurses from across our health system and beyond for a day dedicated to exploring the vision, value, and voice of nursing. As a 5-time Magnet-recognized organization, we take immense pride in providing our employees with opportunities to lead, grow, and innovate through meaningful research and evidence-based practice.

From diving into legislative advocacy and professional legal protection to exploring peer support resources for wellbeing, our nurses are truly taking their voices beyond the bedside to impact our community. Attendees also earned up to 4.5 continuing education hours.

A special thank you to our Chief Nursing Officer, Sue Santana, as well as our dedicated planning committee, administrative support, volunteers, speakers, and catering teams for making this day a great success. Together, we continue to foster an environment of dignity, compassion, and clinical excellence.
