A DIEP flap reconstruction doesn’t just involve the chest—it also involves the abdomen.
During a DIEP flap, skin and fat from the lower abdomen are used to reconstruct the breast while preserving the abdominal muscles. But even though the muscle is preserved, the abdominal donor site still has to heal.
That can mean changes in:
• Core strength and control
• Trunk mobility
• Posture and movement patterns
• Shoulder mobility
• Confidence returning to lifting and exercise
This is where physical therapy can be incredibly valuable. A PT can assess your individual limitations, help restore mobility and strength, address post-operative movement restrictions, and guide your early recovery based on your surgeon’s precautions.
And once you’re healed and medically cleared, there can still be a big gap between “you can exercise” and actually knowing how to train again.
That’s where Strength After Coaching comes in.
If you’ve been cleared after mastectomy or reconstruction but aren’t sure how to safely progress your strength and get back to the activities you love, DM me “STRONG” and let’s talk.
Rebuild. Restore. Reclaim.
