Today we honor Juneteenth—a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates the resilience, strength, and contributions of Black communities.

Juneteenth is both a celebration and a reminder. It invites us to reflect on our history, acknowledge ongoing inequities, and continue working toward a future rooted in justice, dignity, and belonging for all.

At Ames Center for Counseling, we believe that healing happens when people feel seen, valued, and supported. Today, we celebrate freedom, honor resilience, and stand in solidarity with those whose voices and experiences deserve recognition—not just today, but every day.

❤️ We see you. We honor you. We stand with you.

Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is rest.

Ames Center for Counseling is taking a short break from social media to recharge, reconnect, and practice the same self-care we encourage in others.

Stepping away doesn’t mean we’re disappearing—it means we’re making space to slow down, be present, and return refreshed.

Thank you for being here and for supporting our little corner of the internet. 💗

We’ll be back on June 18th.

Until then, we hope you find moments to rest, breathe, and take care of yourself too. 🌴☀️ -

Silent resentment rarely starts with a big fight.

It often starts with the things we don’t say:
• The need we don’t express
• The hurt we brush aside
• The disappointment we tell ourselves shouldn’t matter
• The conversation we keep postponing

Over time, those unspoken feelings can create distance, frustration, and disconnection.

Healthy relationships aren’t built by avoiding conflict. They’re built through honesty, repair, and learning how to communicate needs before resentment takes root.

If you’ve ever been told, “It’s just a pet,” this is your reminder that your grief is real.

They weren’t “just” a dog, cat, bird, rabbit, reptile, fish, or any other animal. They were part of your daily life. They greeted you, comforted you, made you laugh, and loved you in a way that was uniquely theirs.

Losing a beloved pet can leave an enormous hole in your heart. The routines change. The house feels different. The silence can feel overwhelming.

There is no timeline for pet grief, and there is no “right” way to mourn. If you’re grieving a pet right now, please know you’re not alone—and your pain deserves compassion, not judgment.

What is something you miss most about a pet you’ve loved? ❤️

Grief doesn’t always look like tears.

Sometimes it looks like feeling numb.
Sometimes it looks like anger.
Sometimes it looks like struggling to enjoy things you once loved.

There is no “right way” to grieve, and there is no timeline for healing.

If you’re carrying the weight of a loss—whether it’s a loved one, a relationship, a pet, a dream, or a chapter of life—please know that your feelings are valid.

You don’t have to go through it alone. 🤍

Healing isn’t always about big breakthroughs.

Sometimes it’s the small moments that remind your nervous system that you’re safe:
☀️ Sunlight on your face
💬 A kind text from someone you trust
🎵 Your favorite song
☕ A warm cup of coffee
❤️ Feeling seen and understood

These moments are called glimmers—small experiences that help your mind and body shift out of survival mode and into connection, calm, and safety.

What’s a glimmer you’ve noticed lately?

Some days, self-care looks like yoga and journaling.
Other days, it looks like surviving the week and hoping a nap resets your nervous system 😅

Healing doesn’t have to be perfect to matter. Small steps still count. 🤍

If you’ve been running on empty lately, this is your reminder to slow down, breathe, and give yourself a little grace today.

A lot of people aren’t “too sensitive” — they’re emotionally exhausted, overstimulated, and carrying more than their nervous system was meant to hold alone.

When you constantly have to stay strong, over-function, people-please, or suppress your own needs, your mind and body eventually react. Healing often starts with support, boundaries, rest, and learning that you don’t have to earn care by burning yourself out. 🤍

Sometimes healthy communication feels uncomfortable because honesty can trigger defensiveness, fear, or old wounds. But mature relationships are built by people who are willing to talk through problems instead of silently growing apart.

Being able to hear concerns without immediately seeing them as rejection or attack is part of emotional growth, trust, and connection. 🤍
