April is Stress Awareness Month. My first reaction? “No kidding. What woman isn’t aware of stress?” 🙄

Chronic stress is the baseline for most of the women I see. We take on so much, often without even realizing we’ve done it, and our bodies pay the price. Headaches. Brain fog. Gut issues. Lying awake at night because your brain simply will not quiet down.

And here’s what most people don’t talk about: that chronic daily stress isn’t just uncomfortable, it raises cortisol, drives systemic inflammation, and creates an internal environment that is ripe for disease.

But here’s the thing, you don’t have to eliminate all stress. Some stress is actually productive (yes, really). The key is learning the difference between stress that fuels you and stress that’s quietly burning you out.

🚨 You are allowed to put yourself on your own to-do list.
If chronic stress is running your life, I’d love to help you take it back.

The women I see every day are not unaware of stress. They’re drowning in it - silently, chronically, without anyone acknowledging the weight.

April is Stress Awareness Month, and I want to talk about something most stress content glosses over: not all stress is the same, and knowing the difference could genuinely change how you take care of yourself.

👍🏻 Eustress = the kind of pressure that motivates you, sharpens your focus, helps you rise to a challenge.
👎🏻 Distress = the chronic, relentless, overwhelming kind that raises your cortisol, fuels inflammation, and quietly makes you sick.

✅ The goal isn’t zero stress. The goal is to stop letting the wrong kind of stress run your life.

If chronic stress has been running the show, SHEchiatry exists for exactly this. We’re experts in women’s mental health.

When did you stop trusting yourself?

Not the big dramatic moment. The quiet one.

The thousand small times you second-guessed your instinct, deferred to someone else, or talked yourself out of what you already knew was true.

Most women can’t pinpoint a single day. But they can feel the distance between who they are now and who they used to be before life asked them to get smaller.

That distance isn’t permanent. It’s a starting point.

If you’ve been feeling like a stranger to yourself lately, you don’t have to find your way back alone.

Get psychiatric mental healthcare that is curious about the whole YOU. We’re experts in women-centered mental healthcare.

There’s a version of you from a few years ago who would barely recognize where you are now.

Not because your life looks so different on the outside, but because of how small it feels on the inside.

The confidence that used to come easily. The sense that you knew who you were and what you wanted. The feeling that you were moving toward something instead of just getting through.

That version of you isn’t gone. She’s just been waiting for someone to take her seriously.

That’s what we do. We’re experts in women-centered mental healthcare. 💜SHEchiatry.com 🔗Link in bio.

Your gut and your brain are in a constant conversation, and what you eat is writing the script. 🧠

Nutritional psychiatry isn’t about being perfect (yes, I filmed this with a Diet Coke in hand). It’s about understanding that the majority of what you fuel your body with matters. It’s for your body, your mood, your mind, and your mental health.

Want to explore what that could look like for you? Reach out to us at SHEchiatry. This is one of my favorite things to talk about, and it might just change everything.

It’s like my friend always says “What goes down your pie-hole will either heal you or kill you.”

Did you know there’s an entire field of medicine dedicated to the connection between what you eat and how you feel mentally? It’s called Nutritional Psychiatry. It’s changing the way we think about women’s mental health and in my opinion it’s an incredibly important piece of the puzzle when approaching treatment.

Here’s the short version: your gut produces up to 95% of your body’s serotonin, the neurotransmitter that regulates your mood, sleep, and anxiety. That means the billions of bacteria living in your digestive system aren’t just managing digestion. They’re actively influencing your mental health every single day.

When your gut microbiome is out of balance from eating processed foods, refined sugar, chronic stress, or hormonal shifts, your brain feels it. Research shows that women who eat traditional, whole-food diets have a much lower risk of depression than those eating a typical Western diet.

For women between 35 and 65, this matters even more. Perimenopause and menopause bring real hormonal changes that affect gut health, inflammation, and brain chemistry all at once.

Nutritional psychiatry gives us another tool to address the root cause, not just the symptoms.

At SHEchiatry, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all mental health care. We look at the whole woman. Her hormones, her gut, her lifestyle, and yes, her medication when needed. Nutritional psychiatry is one of the pillars of the integrated, functional approach we bring to every patient.

If you’re tired of feeling like something is off and no one is looking deep enough, we’d love to be on your team. 💜

In February, I celebrated four years of NED (No Evidence of Disease) from Triple-Negative Breast Cancer, the most aggressive, most lethal type of breast cancer there is.

I was lucky. I had an incredible team at Vanderbilt. I had access to care. I had the best possible outcome.

But here’s what I can’t sit with: Triple-Negative Breast Cancer disproportionately impacts young women, Latina women, and African American women with higher mortality rates and slower access to the care that saved my life.

That’s not okay with me.

March is Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And right now, the research that levels the playing field is on shaky ground. More than ever, we have to show up for the institutions doing this work.

My story shouldn’t be the exception. It should be every woman’s story.

Please consider donating to: 🔬 The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and 3️⃣ The Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation

Every woman deserves the chance to celebrate years of no evidence of disease.
