It’s We Show Up Wednesday!

This week, we’re proud to shine a spotlight on Russell from our Emergency Department at TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center!

Before joining Southern Hills full time, Russell worked as a travel nurse—and we’re grateful he chose to make Southern Hills home. His leader describes him as a consistently positive presence in the ER who provides excellent care for his patients while helping foster camaraderie and teamwork among his colleagues.

In an environment where every day can bring something different, Russell’s positive attitude and commitment to caring for others make a meaningful difference for both our patients and our team.

Russell, thank you for the way you SHOW UP for your patients and your fellow colleagues each day. We’re glad you’re part of the Southern Hills family!

Every day, hundreds of colleagues walk through the doors of TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center ready to SHOW UP for our patients, our community and each other.

Just like a team taking the field, we each bring something different to the game—but we share the same goal: supporting one another and providing exceptional, compassionate care to those who count on us.

And just like the "Believe" sign in Ted Lasso, We Show Up represents who we are as a team.

As coach Lasso said: "I believe in hope. I believe in 'believe.'"

We will always love you, Dolly!

Our colleagues at Southern Hills wore pink and their favorite Dolly Parton shirts to honor a woman who meant so much to so many, especially here in Tennessee.

Dolly had a way of putting big ideas into simple words:

“If you see someone without a smile today, give ‘em yours.”

For those who work in healthcare, that one hits home. Sometimes a smile, a kind word or simply taking an extra moment with someone can make all the difference in their day.

And then there’s one of our favorites:

“Find out who you are. And do it on purpose.”

There’s a lot of purpose in the work our colleagues choose to do every day—caring for people, comforting families, celebrating the good moments and helping others through the difficult ones.

Today, we wore pink for Dolly and celebrated the love, joy and kindness she shared so freely. We can’t think of a better way to honor that spirit than to keep sharing a little of it with each other and the people we care for.

This week, we were excited to welcome 9 new colleagues who are joining teams across our hospital, including CT Scan, Rehab Services, Nutrition Services, CCU, 5th Floor Ortho/Neuro, PACU, Radiology, and our ER.

Each new colleague brings unique skills and a shared commitment to providing exceptional care for our patients and community.

National Dog Day was yesterday, and we had a very special visitor at TriStar Southern Hills!

Meet Winston, a 5-year-old, 157-pound Saint Bernard who stopped by for a therapy dog visit with our colleagues and patients. Winston and his handler, Johanna, have completed nearly 600 therapy visits over the past four years, bringing comfort and smiles to people throughout Middle Tennessee.

Therapy dogs like Winston can provide a welcome moment of comfort, connection and joy—something that can be especially meaningful during a hospital stay or a busy day caring for others.

“We live in a really heavy world sometimes,” Johanna shared. “Any time I see somebody smile or they say, ‘Gosh, he’s just made my day,’ that is worth its weight in gold for us.”

And Winston certainly has a gift for making people smile! When he’s not brightening someone’s day, this gentle giant stays busy with rally, scent work, carting, barn hunt and even dock diving.

Thank you, Winston and Johanna, for spending time with our TriStar Southern Hills family and reminding us just how powerful a little joy—and a very big dog—can be.

It's We Show Up Wednesday!

This week, we’re proud to shine a spotlight on Kashara from our Food & Nutrition Services team at TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center!

Whether she’s working in the cafeteria, supporting the doctor’s lounge, or preparing meals on the patient tray line, Kashara is always ready to step in wherever she’s needed. Recently, she has gone above and beyond by picking up shifts and filling in when her team has been short-staffed, helping ensure both her colleagues and our patients are taken care of.

Her team shared, “Kashara is always ready to step up. She’s really adaptable to wherever we need her to go, and she’s always willing to pick up shifts and help out.” And there’s one more thing her team wants everyone to know: “She’s a very skilled chef!”

Kashara, thank you for your flexibility, positive attitude, and willingness to lend a hand wherever it’s needed. We appreciate the many ways you SHOW UP for your colleagues and our patients every day!
