Watch this short animation to see what the land consumed by the I-77/I-277 interchange could become if we can muster the vision and local leadership to do what Austin, Texas, is doing right now with I-35 — the freeway that slices through their downtown cutting off the minority neighborhoods in East Austin from the heart of their city.

They are lowering parts of the freeway and capping it with a park.

The team at the local office of Gresham Smith who created this design and animation will be presenting it to the Board of County Commissioners at 1 p.m. on Thursday, along with two other incredible designs we are sharing with them from our Reimagining 77 South design challenge.
