Best Exercises for Primitive Reflex Integration to Support Motor Skills

Primitive reflexes shape early movement, yet some remain active longer than they should. As a result, a child may struggle with balance, posture, focus, or smooth coordination. You can use simple, targeted exercises to help the body replace reflex patterns with steady, controlled motor skills.

The best exercises for primitive reflex integration use clear, repeated movements that train the brain and body to work together, which supports stronger motor skills over time. This article explains how jump and land drills, cross crawl patterns, hand-to-mouth motions, balance tasks, head position work, and side trunk moves can support healthy motor development in a safe and practical way.

Moro Reflex Integration through jumping and landing exercises

The Moro reflex, often called the startle reflex, can affect balance, focus, and emotional control if it does not fade on time. Jump and land drills give the body clear input about movement and gravity. As a result, they support exercises for primitive reflex integration that aim to build better motor control.

A simple activity starts with small two‑foot jumps in place. The child bends the knees, jumps up, then lands with both feet flat and knees soft. He or she then pauses for three seconds to help the body reset and feel stable.

Transformation Life Center’s Steps of Success 5K Moves Downtown for 16th Annual Event

One of Middle Tennessee’s longest-running community races is heading to a new location this fall.

Transformation Life Center (TLC) has announced that its 16th Annual Steps of Success 5K and 1-Mile Family Fun Run/Walk will take place in Downtown Nashville on Sept. 12, marking the first time the event will move from its longtime home at Shelby Park.

The 2026 theme, “From Shelby to the Music City Skyline,” celebrates both the race’s new downtown course and the continued mission of supporting youth leadership, mentorship, and career development throughout the Nashville community.

“For the past 15 years, this race has been more than a race—it has been a pathway to success for future leaders,” said Demetrius Short, founder and CEO of Transformation Life Center. “Moving downtown reflects our commitment to expanding our impact, increasing participation, and ensuring that the stories and futures of the young people we serve are seen, supported, and celebrated on a larger stage.”

The annual event traces its roots back to Short’s own journey as a college student, when he walked more than three miles each day in a suit from campus to an internship while working to fund his education. In honor of that experience, Short has completed the race in a suit and sneakers every year since its inception and plans to continue the tradition during this year’s downtown event.

June is Men’s Health Month, and with Father’s Day around the corner, it’s a reminder that taking care of your health means more than just hitting the gym.

Mental health, recovery, and asking for help are all part of overall wellness.

Men are statistically less likely to seek treatment for substance use disorders, often putting work, family, and responsibilities ahead of their own well-being. But prioritizing your health isn’t selfish—it’s one of the most important things you can do for yourself and the people who depend on you.

If you or someone you love is struggling with alcohol or substance use, know that support is available and recovery is possible.

This Father’s Day, let’s celebrate strength in all its forms—including the courage to ask for help. 💙

Fit Friday Feature: How Sarah Schumacher Turned Heartbreak Into a Thriving Nashville Fitness Career

For many personal trainers, fitness wasn’t always part of the plan. Some stumble into the industry through their own transformation stories, while others discover a passion for coaching later in life.

For Sarah Schumacher, however, the path was clear from the beginning.

“I knew pretty early on that I wanted to be in the fitness space,” Schumacher said. “I didn’t know what part of the fitness space it would be, but I knew that’s where I wanted to be.”

That certainty led her to pursue a degree in Exercise Science in her home state of Minnesota. What she didn’t know at the time was that the road ahead would eventually bring her to Nashville, challenge her in unexpected ways, and ultimately help her build a thriving career centered on helping others gain confidence both inside and outside the gym.
