Female Urology of Nashville was founded by Drs. Abel, Allen, and Scarpero in 2017. We have just added Dr. Ly Hoang Roberts in 2026 after Dr. Scarpero retired.

Female Urology of Nashville is founded by Dr. Marcy Abel, Dr. Tara Allen, and Dr. Harriette Scarpero who are board certified in Urology and Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS).

Over the weekend, our Dr. Ly Hoang Roberts had the opportunity to speak at the University of California, Irvine International Women’s Health & Pelvic Reconstruction Course, sharing her expertise in women’s pelvic health.🤩

Dr. Hoang Roberts shared insights on overactive bladder, including treatment options such as Botox and neuromodulation. Dr. Hoang Roberts shares her story of how she started in medicine:

“My family has deep roots in medicine starting with my grandfather, an apothecary in Vietnam, and extending to my siblings and I. My parents always told their children to choose a career that was noble and helped others, so medicine was the natural choice.

When I discovered global health at Rice University and how far-reaching its impact can be, medicine became more personal. After I earned my MD, I went on a medical mission trip and worked 14-hour days repairing complex fistulas for mothers in Angola. The trip cemented my love and respect for medicine, but it also widened my eyes to the fact that female health is neglected in many parts of the world.

When I came back to the US, I realized that’s sadly also true to a certain extent here at home. So that lit the spark that fuels my passion for female urology to this day.”

How did our Dr. Tara Allen get her start in urology?🤔

Dr. Allen’s passion for improving women’s quality of life started from an early age. She says, “Growing up on a farm, I had a grandmother who was so healthy she could herd cattle on foot well into her 80s, but during this activity, she would soak her clothes every time. It pained me to see how someone so healthy had to deal with something so humiliating that I now know was so easy to fix. I think it was this personal experience with how much quality of life issues matter that made urology so interesting to me.” ❤️‍🩹
