Botox® is great for so many things—but lifting heavy eyebrows isn’t one of them.

Our patient Alix came in thinking she needed more of the neuromodulator she’d been getting for the past decade, but Dr. Biesman explained that her forehead muscles were working overtime to compensate for the heaviness around her brows and upper eyelids. Relaxing those muscles with more Botox® would only make that heavy feeling worse.

The better solution was to address the underlying anatomy with an upper blepharoplasty and endoscopic brow lift. Now, when she gets neuromodulator treatment, it can work as intended—to smooth lines and limit movement without making her brows feel heavy.

While this patient presented with a request for blepharoplasty, to achieve her best outcome a more comprehensive approach was needed. The combination of eyebrow recontouring in addition to blepharoplasty produced a more balanced, natural-looking outcome that will provide a long-term benefit.

Recovery after aggressive laser resurfacing isn’t always pretty, but patients are often surprised by how quickly healing progresses each day.

underwent UltraClear® laser resurfacing around the eyes to improve wrinkles, mild skin laxity, and overall skin quality. The tradeoff for treating this delicate area more aggressively is several days of significant redness, swelling, and being covered in a thick layer of Aquaphor. However, within a week, Kate was camera-ready and posing on the red carpet at an event.

Most of our patients want their neuromodulator to last longer, not wear off faster. But that’s exactly what Boey®, Allergan Aesthetics’ new botulinum toxin type E, is designed to do. Already approved in Canada and Europe, it can begin working in as little as eight hours, with effects typically lasting just two to three weeks.

That shorter window could make it an interesting option for someone who wants to try a neuromodulator for the first time without committing to months of results, wants results quickly before a last-minute event, or only needs temporary muscle relaxation around a surgical procedure.

Boey® is not currently FDA-approved in the U.S., but we’ll keep you posted when we find out more.
