Earlier this month, we shared a video of Dr. Biesman explaining that ptosis repair is one of the most misunderstood procedures he performs, and this patient is a great example of why.

Many people assume an upper blepharoplasty alone will open up their eyes, but if the muscle responsible for lifting the eyelid has weakened over time, removing excess skin only addresses part of the problem.

In addition to upper and lower blepharoplasty, this patient needed ptosis repair to lift and stabilize the lid, so more of her iris is visible.
You may be a candidate for ptosis repair if your upper eyelid rests low over your pupil, one eyelid sits lower than the other, or your eyelids feel heavy by the end of the day.

Not every consultation ends in a treatment plan—and that’s a good thing in our practice.

If the expected outcome won’t make a significant difference, the risks outweigh the benefits, or a patient wants something that won’t look natural or balanced, Dr. Biesman isn’t afraid to say so. It can be disappointing to hear you’re not a candidate for the procedure you came in asking for, but more often than not, patients tell us they’re grateful for the honesty.
