We teach yoga in a trauma-informed way, because two of our studio values are inclusivity and agency. But WTF does it actually mean to teach trauma informed yoga? And how do we do it?
WHY WE TEACH THIS WAY ➡️ we know that your whole self shows up on your mat for yoga, whether that’s what you wanted or not 😅 and this is how we can help you feel safe and welcome in our studio
5 WAYS WE ARE TRAUMA INFORMED ➡️
1. Telling you that the door is locked and keeping you informed on safety and security in the room
2. Offering you options in each shape, and emphasizing that these options don’t have a hierarchy - one is not better or worse
3. Giving you agency to do what you want during practice whether we’ve cued that or not
4. Invitational language: saying you could, you might, what if rather than simply telling you exactly what to do
5. Always asking for permission before a hands on assist - even if you have an assist chip that says “yes” to assists on your mat!
Want to experience this yourself? Come check out a class! New students get one week unlimited for $30.
And if you love all this and want to learn more, join us for Philosophy + Ethics 1 next weekend! We’ll talk about ethics in yoga, the yoga sutra, and how we apply all of this in practice.
