Intrusive thoughts show up without warning and leave you wondering, “Why would I think something like that?”
Then fear and shame take over.
You start questioning yourself. You avoid certain people or places. You replay the thought, search for reassurance, or create routines to feel safe.
Intrusive thoughts can occur with anxiety, OCD, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Having one does not define your character or reveal what you secretly want.
When these thoughts keep returning or interfere with daily life, it may be time to talk with a psychiatric provider.
During an initial psychiatric evaluation, I’ll take time to learn more about your symptoms, history, and how these thoughts are affecting you. From there, we can discuss care built around your needs.
