Could a policy decision affect whether someone detects cancer early? Absolutely. Cancer screenings aren’t just about doctors and tests. Policy plays a key role in who gets screened and what it costs.

On the latest miniVHAN podcast, Maddie Michael of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network discusses how policy shapes cancer prevention and screening across Tennessee. From lowering prostate screening costs to expanding colorectal screening in rural areas, the conversation highlights policy’s impact on early detection and affordability.

Every 2 minutes, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with lung cancer, but there is hope. Early detection is helping more people survive than ever before.

At Vanderbilt Health, Dr. Fabien Maldonado, Director of Interventional Pulmonology, is leading the way with innovative tools to detect lung cancer earlier and more accurately. Using advanced robotic bronchoscopy paired with Cone-Beam CT, his team creates detailed 3D images of the lungs and performs minimally invasive biopsies.

This approach helps make diagnosis safer, faster, and more precise, giving patients a better chance at successful treatment. Watch interview below.
